THEFACESHOP Real Nature Hydro Gel Mask ($7 each) come two varieties featuring nature-derived ingredients - green tea for brightening and red ginseng for anti-aging. Face masks (+ a candle and a good book) are the best way to wind down after a stressful day. I've never tried a gel face mask, though lots of Asian beauty brands have them, so I was excited for my first attempt...

The mask comes in two pieces. One half for your cheeks and nose and the other for your mouth and jaw. Out of the packet, both sides are covered with plastic sheets to separate the pieces. The mask is quite thin and a little slippery. I was afraid my nails claws might tear the gel but the mask seemed to hold up well.

I was surprised to find that the mask was a little cold but not slimy or wet. There wasn't a lot of excess serum in the packet. The gel texture of the mask hugs the face softly without sliding around. In terms of fit, THEFACESHOP Real Nature Hydro Gel Masks were perfect for my face shape and size. However, it didn't wrap around my chin as face masks typically do, so if your face is larger than mine these ones might be too small for you.

If you look closely, you can see little bits of red ginseng flakes. It also smells exactly like Chinese ginseng tea. If you like herbal scents, then this one's for you. THEFACESHOP says that these little bits of ginseng help to prevent aging for vibrant, youthful skin

Compared to cloth face masks, these don't look quite as scary. Also, after removing the mask I found that there was very little residue left on my skin, which felt soft and moisturized without feeling slimy. I didn't feel the need to rub the moisture into my face, as it felt like any moisture from the mask had already been absorbed through the gel while I was wearing it.

Happy skin!

What is going on with my eyebrows?

I also tried THEFACESHOP Green Tea Hydro Gel Mask on another occasion. THEFACESHOP says that the green tea is meant to brighten the skin and also prevents formation of freckles and calms skin troubles. I didn't find any difference between the ginseng and the green tea face masks other than the scents (Green Tea does not smell like matcha, it has a fresh scent) but I did enjoy them both!

THEFACESHOP Real Nature Hydro Gel Masks are a little pricier than the usual $2 but because I don't do masks that often (maybe once or twice a month), $7 is still affordable for some at-home spa-like relaxation. I definitely prefer gel masks over cotton sheet masks, as they're less sticky and more comfortable!
