HAUL: Lush Mother's Day + Factory Tour

If you haven't watched my vlog of my time at the Lush Factory (see bit.ly/lushfactory) yet, then you should know that I picked up a ton of goodies from Lush including some of the Mother's Day releases, as well as new-to-Canada Oxford Street collection soaps and a couple products from the permanent line.

Lush Cosmetics LadyBug Bubble Bar

The Lush LadyBug Bubble Bar ($5.95) is an adorable little spring release for Mother's Day. It contains geranium and peppermint oils for sweet, minty bubbles that are balancing and uplifting.

Lush Cosmetics Yummy Mummy Shower Cream

The Lush Yummy Mummy Shower Cream ($9.95) is just as yummy smelling as the name. The geranium oil, Brazilian orange oil and tonka make it fruity and sweet yet a little delicate. Bonus - it has sparkles in it!

Lush Cosmetics Sunrise Soap

Lush's Sunrise Soap ($6.95/100g) is bold, citrusy and fresh - just how I like it! It contains orchid, tofu and coconut blossom nectar, as well as marigold.

Lush Cosmetics Layer Cake Soap

Touch the Rainbow, SMELL THE RAINBOW. Lush Layer Cake Soap ($6.95/100g) is made of 5 different layers of fresh fruit juices - grape, orange, blueberry, pineapple and raspberry. YUM!

Lush Cosmetics MayPole Soap

MayPole = Maple. That's right, Canadian friends. Lush MayPole Soap ($6.95/100g) contains Canadian maple syrup (and peppermint).

Lush Cosmetics Outback Mate Soap

Lush Outback Mate Soap is the prettiest of them all. Eucalyptus, lemongrass and peppermint make it zingy and tingly and minty fresh!

Lush Cosmetics Respect Your Elders Soap

Oh, Lush. You are so punny. The Respect Your Elders Soap ($6.95/100g) is infused with elderflower and elderberries. The light, fresh, floral/fruity scent is right up my alley.

Lush Cosmetics Serendipity Soap

I'm not a fan of lavender but if you are, Lush Serendipity Soap ($7.95) is for you. It's got two layers - a dark purple outer layer with sprigs of dried lavender and a light purple inner layer infused with chamomile and more lavender!

Lush Cosmetics Lava Lamp Bath Bomb

The Lush Lava Lamp Bath Bomb smells a lot like the Brazilliant Solid Shampoo, with the added bonus of making your bath tub look like a purple and orange lava lamp. I'm excited to use this one!

Lush Cosmetics Rainbow Fun

I'm no stranger to Lush FUN ($9.95). This rainbow version has a total of SEVEN colours in it.

Lush Cosmetics Brazened Honey Fresh Face Mask

Last but not least is the Brazened Honey Fresh Face Mask ($7.95). I watched this one being made right in the factory. It contains honey, fennel, coriander, parsley and kaolin clay to tighten the pores and pull out impurities.

Not pictured individually are the AvoBath Bath Bomb and some Yuzu and Cocoa Bubbleroons that got destroyed in my bag. Annnnd... that's everything! I can't contain my excitement. I also got a Lush factory uniform.

Sephora Collection Travel Makeup Bags and Brushes

Traveling in style has never been easier. Sephora Collection has a boatload of travel makeup options for every budget.

After being away for 2 weeks, I regret not bringing any brushes with me. Good brushes make for a good makeup application and I found it hard to achieve my desired look without a few. Anyways, below, I've rounded up a few travel beauty options available at Sephora!

Sephora Collection Break Ups to Make Up Bag ($33) and Jelly Bag ($30)

The Sephora Collection Break Ups to Make Up Bag and Jelly Bag are quirky, straightforward and sassy. I love to use these kinds of bags to separate all my beauty products - one for skincare, one for makeup and one for "other" (for example: shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, toothpaste, etc). My only issue with these bags is that there's no clear one for passing TSA airport regulations.

Sephora Collection BYOB: Bring Your Own Brushes Break Ups to Make Up Brush Set ($68)

The Sephora Collection BYOB: Bring Your Own Brushes Break Ups to Make Up Brush Set ($68) includes five brushes - round powder, angled brush, crease brush, shadow brush and lip brush - plus a jelly pouch lettered with BYOB for "bring your own brushes". The round powder brush, angled crease brush and angled brush are all made of goat hair, while the allover shadow brush and lip brush are synthetic. While the brushes are ADORABLE, the set is a tad pricey for the number and quality of the brushes in the set.

Sephora Collection Eye Opening Eye Contour Tutorial Brush Set ($56)

If you're like me and totally hopeless at curating the perfect essential eye makeup brushes to travel with, then the Sephora Collection Eye Opening Eye Contour Tutorial Brush Set ($56) is for you. The set takes all the work out of choosing which brushes to carry with me on vacation. Six synthetic brushes and a carrying case is everything you need for an eye look. Included is a blending crease brush, eye enhancer brush, pointed liner brush, smudge brush, and angled brow brush. All of the brushes are super soft and feel very lightweight when held. There's also a tutorial card, which makes this set perfect for those just getting into eye makeup.

Sephora Collection Here's the Skinny Brush Wrap ($49)

The Sephora Collection Here's the Skinny Brush Wrap ($49) includes a zip up carrying case and 5 on-the-go mini brushes - a powder brush, foundation brush, crease brush, allover eyeshadow brush and eyeliner brush. Personally, I'd probably only use the powder brush, the crease brush and the allover eyeshadow brush. On the go, it's not ideal to carry around a liquid foundation (that would go with the flat foundation brush). Also, I don't usually use an angled brush for my eyeliner. That being said, if you would use all of the brushes, it still seems a little pricey for the size and quality, as each brush would be $10 each. You might be better off picking up individual brushes from the Sephora Collection.

Sephora Collection I'm Not Perfect But My Eyeliner is Brush Canister ($28)

The Sephora Collection I'm Not Perfect But My Eyeliner is Brush Canister ($28) contains 5 mini brushes - a cream shadow brush, small shadow brush, angled brush, smudge brush and angled liner brush. I have to say I prefer the quality and softness of the brushes from the Sephora Collection Eye Opening Eye Contour Tutorial Brush Set but if you're tight on space than these baby brushes will get the job done.

What do you think of these Sephora Collection travel makeup goodies?

Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Polish in 198 White Snow and 202 Sunday's Cool

The Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Polish ($22 CAD) is meant to be a "fresh take on nail polish", as it is formulated with bonding agents to deliver a chip-resistant wet look.

The bottles are oh so pretty but also oh so awkward to store in my collection full of square and circle shaped bottles. But it's all good, because pretty trumps everything. The shape of the bottle is actually meant to resemble a smile.
The Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Polish is available in 43 shades. Each of the shades are inspired by one of Marc Jacobs's favourite movies. The formulation of the Enamored Hi-Shine Nail polish is interesting. It's quite thick and wraps around the nail, self-levelling with ease. Dry time is average. In terms of shininess and wear-time both polishes stayed super shiny for 2 days and did not chip until 4 days, which is better than average on my fingertips.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Polish in 198 White Snow

Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Polish in 198 White Snow

198 White Snow is one of those intentionally sheer jelly polishes. In my swatch, I'm wearing 4 coats. White Snow gives clean, chic look to the nails. It's unusual for me and certainly not my cup of tea.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Polish in 202 Sunday's Cool

Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Polish in 202 Sunday's Cool

202 Sunday's Cool is a cool pastel lavender, opaque in 2 coats. Cool pastels like this one are my go-to for the spring this year. It's especially wonderful because it matches the colour of the walls in my room!

Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Polish in 202 Sunday's Cool

Overall, the Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Nail Polishes are a pretty great formula. Yes, it's a little pricey for what it is at $22, but keep in mind you're paying for the brand and the beautiful packaging in addition to a pretty nail polish.

Stay tuned for a few more things from Marc Jacobs in the coming weeks!

I only went on Saturday. At the end of the day, it felt like I had walked a gazillion miles. So, I missed the booth samples for Absolute New York, Benefit, Crown Brushes, Evelyn Iona, and Essence.

THE ADMINISTRATIVE STUFF

FOR ATTENDEES:
  • Attendees were provided with a "passport" with perforated rip-apart tickets to redeem samples and products at each of the brand booths.
  • Some brand booths had additional product for sale.
  • Attendees were not provided with a tote bag to carry their goodies around. TIP: BYOB (bring your own bag).
  • Some brands require some sort of follow or post on social media in order for you to redeem your swag.
  • The most popular brands like Tarte, Too Faced and Benefit had wait times anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour long. For both days, there was also a gift bag distribution to redeem additional goodies.
  • Attendee tickets are $200, though there are early bird deals and coupon codes.

FOR BEAUTY CREATORS:
Everything for creators was the same as regular attendees, with a few more perks:
  • For creators, there was also a "concierge" program. In a nutshell, the program was a 30 minute tour featuring three brands to jump the line and meet the public relations and marketing people from the brands. This was a huge advantage (I went on 3 tours and saw 9 brands in 1.5 hours) but I didn't find out about sign-ups until I got there. By then, sign ups were pretty much full, so I had to wait in line with almost everyone else.
  • Creators are invited to attend the Ipsy Open Studios Cocktail Party on the Saturday. At the party, there are less people and you can get one-on-one time with influencers.
  • Creators get their swag at the party, rather than at the conference itself.
  • If you're a creator and a member of IpsyOS, Generation Beauty tickets are free.
 It's @StayGorgeousLC!

#InstaReady with @SachieTV

All in all, a fabulous time. Yes, the lines were long but the swag was good and the company was great. Until next time, Generation Beauty!

Were you at Generation Beauty Toronto?

Thanks to IpsyOS, I attended Generation Beauty free of charge (and had a fabulous time).

Sigma Beauty E25 Blending Brush (MAC 217 and Hakuhodo Dupe)

$

Enter the Sigma Beauty E25 Blending Brush ($19.50 from Nail Polish Canada), a recent acquisition that is compared to the MAC 217 online and has an uncanny similarity to my Hakuhodo J5523 Eye Shadow Brush

The Sigma Beauty E25 Blending Brush is a slightly firm and rounded brush, meant to blur lines and edges and apply colour to the lid. The tapered side is for the former and the flat side is for the latter. Pretty much all-in-one eyeshadow application.

As aforementioned, the Sigma E25 Brush is very similar to the Hakuhodo J5523 Brush. Hakuhodo is slightly pricier at $23 CAD. Both are made of natural goat hair. The handle of the Sigma E25 is ever so slightly longer, while Hakuhodo's J5523 bristles are a couple millimetres longer with the brush head slightly rounder. Both retain their shape through washing and can be used with cream, liquid and powder products.

Sigma Beauty E25 Blending Brush vs. Hakuhodo J5523 Eye Shadow Brush (MAC 217 Dupes)

Eyeshadow application looks the same but the experience is a little different. Perhaps it's my imagination but the hand-cut bristles of Hakuhodo's J5523 are slightly softer, which makes blending out shadows ever so slightly quicker than the Sigma E25. Other than this, there is no difference in performance.

The Sigma Beauty E25 Blending Brush works almost exactly the same as my trusty Hakuhodo J5523. In other words, it's a great brush and an essential in my everyday eyeshadow routine. So, if you're looking for a Hakuhodo J5523 Eye Shadow Brush dupe, the Sigma E25 will certainly satisfy your needs.

While I'm perfectly satisfied with both the Sigma and Hakuhodo blending brushes, I'm still might have to pick up that $27 MAC 217...

THREE THINGS: Sephora Collection Rouge Gel Lip Liner, Rouge Shine Lipsticks and Rouge Cream Lipstick

$

It's sad that Sephora Collection products are often overlooked. They have a crazy amazing selection of products at decent prices and in innovative formulations. Today, I've got three Sephora Collection lip products to share with you - the Sephora Collection Rouge Gel Lip Liner ($15), Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipsticks ($15) and Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lipstick ($16).

Swatches: Sephora Collection Rouge Gel Lip Liner in 07 Dragon Fruit ($15), Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipsticks in 55 Addicted to You and 60 Love Me Tomorrow ($15) and Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lipstick ($16) in R62 Private Boudoir.

Sephora Collection Rouge Gel Lip Liner in 07 Dragon Fruit ($15)

Can I jump to the point and say that the Sephora Collection Rouge Gel Lip Liner might be the best I've ever tried? It's smooth and creamy, yet it still has the lasting power and slight waxiness that is required for a lip liner to be worn under a lipstick (or on its own). Sure, it's not self-sharpening like Annabelle's lip liners but it is retractable and has a mini sharpener on the end.

The Sephora Collection Rouge Gel Lip Liner in 07 Dragon Fruit is described as a matte fuchsia on the Sephora website. It's not so blue that it makes my teeth look yellow. It's just enough to be bold and punchy yet wearable. It's also not that matte and has a slight moisturizing sheen. The Sephora Collection Rouge Gel Lip Liner is available in 18 shades all of which I feel like I neeed.

Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipsticks in 55 Addicted to You and 60 Love Me Tomorrow ($15)

Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipsticks in 55 Addicted to You

Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipsticks in 60 Love Me Tomorrow

I typically love shiny lipsticks but the Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipsticks were not for me. They aren't particularly moisturizing. In fact, they're a little hard feeling and require quite a few layers to build pigmentation. In the process of layering the lipstick, lip lines and dry patches are emphasized in a not-so-flattering way.

The Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipstick in 55 Addicted to You is a pale pastel pink, while 60 Love Me Tomorrow is a sheer coral. The Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipsticks are available in 39 shades.

Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lipstick in R62 Private Boudoir ($16)

The Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lipstick in R62 makes me feel like a million bucks.

The Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lipsticks are an updated version of the so called iconic Sephora Lip Attitude Chic. The lipstick is super creamy, hydrating and packed with pigment. Thankfully, the blue shade doesn't transfer onto my teeth. This lipstick is quite difficult to wear in such a dramatic shade, as it moves around a lot when I talk and smush my lips together. If I'm looking to wear it for longer than a couple hours, I'd probably put a black lip liner underneath.

The Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lipstick in R62 Private Boudoir is oh so badass and not so wearable. Regardless, I'm obsessed. Private Boudoir is a strange navy blue lipstick with a bit of purple. Yeah, it definitely makes my teeth look yellow. But whatever. The Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lipsticks are available in 41 shades.

Mary Kay Lash Intensity Mascara

$
0
0
The Mary Kay Lash Intensity Mascara ($22) claims to provide 200% more volume to the thickness of lashes + 84% longer-looking lashes. That's a whole lot of lash, if I do say so myself.

The wand of the Mary Kay Lash Intensity Mascara is freaking HUGE. To go with the huge claims, I guess. The wand is actually quite effective at grabbing onto all of the lashes and coating them with the mascara.

I did not experience the "wow-worthy" lash intensity claims made by Mary Kay. There's certainly a lot of volume going on and a teensy bit of length. It's all for naught because the mascara can't really hold a curl. The mascara volume builds up quickly, 2 coats is likely sufficient for everyone and any more than 3 might give you the spider-look.

In addition to all the volumizing/clumping action, the Mary Kay Lash Intensity Mascara supposedly has "TLC" or Triple Lash Conditioning, which means there is Pro Vitamin B5, Vitamin E and fatty acids to protect, condition and strengthen the lashes. I didn't feel any difference in the health of my eyelashes (they're still short and stubby and not particularly soft).

Does it lengthen? A little. Does it volumize? Quite a bit. Does it clump? Yes. Does it smudge? No. Does it droop? Yes. Is it easy to remove? Yes.

Overall, this mascara wasn't for me. It looks okay on the lashes but by no means the best. It's not something I would shell out $22 for. However, if you've got long lucsious lashes that don't even require a curl, then perhaps this one might work better for you.

What do you think of the Mary Kay Lash Intensity Mascara?

Marc Jacobs Cover(t) Stick Color Corrector in 320 Getting Warmer

$
0
0
The Marc Jacobs Cover(t) Stick Color Corrector in 320 Getting Warmer ($52) is probably the chicest way to hop on the colour correcting bandwagon. The white and black minimalist twist-up plastic packaging is right up my alley.

The Marc Jacobs Cover(t) Stick Color Corrector is available in three shades:
310 Bright Now - pink/lilac to eliminate dullness and cover dark circles for light skin
300 Co(vert) Affairs - citron/lime to eliminate redness
320 Getting Warmer - peach/caramel to eliminate dark circles and hyperpigmentation for medium/deep skin

The Marc Jacobs Cover(t) Stick Color Corrector in 320 Getting Warmer ($52) has a few different uses which will change depending on your skin tone. For medium/dark complexions, Getting Warmer can be used to as a concealer and dark circle corrector. For light/medium complexions, it's more of a bronzer to warm the skin.

I fall into the light/medium side of the spectrum, so I've been using the Marc Jacobs Cover(t) Stick Color Corrector as a bronzer on the outermost edges of my face and cheekbones. The caramel shade is just the right amount of orange to give a warm glow to the face.

I have a bit of hyperpigmentation where I would normally put bronzer. The Cover(t) has a light/medium coverage when blended onto the face.

My skin doesn't typically get along well with face products in stick form. This one's special. The velvety, almost mousse-feeling texture glides on the skin with ease. It's smooth, soft and easy to blend but not oily or slick on the skin. The pigment lasts around 5-6 hours on my skin without looking blotchy, which is nice.

Overall, the Marc Jacobs Cover(t) Stick Color Corrector is a unique texture that I wish more products could have.  It works for the purposes that I use it, however I'm not really sure if I'm using it right. Plus, I'm not quite in the need for another bronzer. Then again, if you're a medium/deep skin tone this might be a holy grail for you!

HAUL: #bbloggersCA Swap // Generation Beauty Toronto Edition

$

What happens when 10+ beauty bloggers are in the same place at one time? A humongous swap. I'm trying to find a snap (but it disappeared...as snaps do). Just imagine hundreds of makeup, skincare, and nail polish sprawled out on a table.

Here's what I picked up:

Cle De Peau Beaute Concealer in Beige (sample) - This one is kind of a big deal because Jenn of Procrastinating Pretty says it's holy grail status and the sample that I picked out of the swap pile is probably worth $30.

Benefit Instant Brow Pencil in Deep & Essence Make Me Brow in 02 Browny Brows - I'm in the process of making my brow game strong. And I think that these two products will help me get there.

OCC Cosmetic Colour Pencil in Black Dahlia - I've had some trouble with my OCC RTW Lip Tar in Black Dahlia and I'm hoping this will help it stay on my lips instead of migrating onto my chin.

Josie Maran Argan Infinity Lip and Cheek Creamy Oil in Limitless Pink - The guava version of this product is well-loved, so I thought I'd give another shade a try. Also, the mini size is sooo cute!

Clio Lipnicure in 06 Rumor Coral & Etude House Color Lips Fit in Wanna Fit Orange - I always have room in my makeup drawer for k-beauty. I've heard good things about the Clio Lipnicures (and nothing about the Etude House Color Lips Fit). Looking forward to trying these!

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara (sample) - because when is there ever enough mascara? Also, I haven't tried this one yet!

Boscia Thermal Black Cleanser - Gimmicky skincare that warms up your face? YES.

Clarins Ombre Iridescente Eyeshadow in Aquatic Rose - I have a soft spot for shimmery, rosy champagne hues and I haven't had much play time with Clarins beauty products.

Essence Nail Art Pastel Ombre - I'm curious to see how well this will layer over all of my nails for a 5-coloured ombre.

The Body Shop Body Butter in Mango - Body Shop Body Butters are an oldie but goodie for me. Can't wait to slather this all over my bod.

Butter London Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer in Over the Moon - last but not least, the Butter London Nail Lacquer in Over the Moon is a grey/olive-green tone. I'm not sure how it will look on my yellow-based skintone but we shall see.

Shoutout to Julie for hosting and Natalie, Jayne and Chelsea for coming from opposite ends of the country to hang out.

What should I try first? :)

OPI Infinite Shine Spring 2016 Collection

$
0
0
The OPI Infinite Shine Collection is one of those no lamp, no light, easy to remove gel nail polishes that is meant to last for 10 days straight... with presumably infinite shine. Including the 8 colours from the spring collection, there are 70 colours in total.

The OPI Infinite Shine gel-lacquers, primer and gloss retail for $14.95 CAD each.

Unlike the Wet N Wild 1 Step Wonder Gel (which I did not particularly enjoy) , the OPI Infinite Shine Nail Polishes require 3 steps: Step 1 is the OPI Infinite Shine Primer, which is a base coat that is meant to prevent staining and grip onto colour; Step 2 is colour; and Step 3 is the OPI Shine Gloss, a gel polymer top coat that cures in natural light.

I'm a bit lazy for three whole steps of application and drying, though the process is than the colour + top coat process that I've been spoiled with by the likes of Revlon and Sally Hansen

I applied all three steps, as instructed and the OPI Infinite Shine system lasted all of 5 days before chipping. That's  decent for a regular old polish but half the time claimed. Needless to say, I was a little unimpressed. Other than the wear time, the polish was shiny until I took it off, I didn't experience any staining, and my standard nail polish remover was sufficient at taking it off.

Regardless of my slight disappointment, here are the colours!

Sunrise to Sunset // cream light orange, similar to OPI New Orleans Cat Fishin for a Compliment

Half Past Nude // cream light nude blush

Reach for the Sky // cream cool, airy light blue, similar to Mary Kay Sweet Lilac

Olive in Green // cream deep olive evergreen

It's Pink PM // cream pastel off-white pink, similar to Mary Kay Pink Magnolia

In Familiar Terra-Tory // cream rich terracotta coral

Don't Provoke the Plum // cream warm purple

Rose Against Time // cream bright blue-based medium/light pink

Overall, the formula didn't quite deliver on the 10-day claim. However, I think the OPI Infinite Shine Spring 2016 Collection has some very pretty shades (In Familiar Terra-tory and Half Past Nude are my faves!).

THREE THINGS: Spring Loves from #CoverGirl and Olay // #Best Beautiful #CoverGirlClean

$

Every month, P&G Beauty sends along an enormous package of beauty goodies for me to play with. Not everything makes it onto the blog but sometimes there are a few noteworthy products. This month, I've been enjoying the CoverGirl Clean Matte BB Cream for Oily Skin in 530 Light/Medium, CoverGirl Perfect Blend Eyeshadow in 135 Cobalt Blue, and the Olay 4-in-1 Daily Facial Cloths

CoverGirl Clean Matte BB Cream for Oily Skin in 530 Light/Medium ($8.99) - I think... I've found the perfect BB Cream for my bizarrely oily skin. It's lightweight and comfortable yet it provides full coverage. Also, it lasts on the skin beautifully - doesn't break up on my nose and remains matte with minimal touch ups throughout the day. My only gripe? No SPF.

The CoverGirl Clean Matte BB Cream is available in 6 shades - Fair, Light, Light/Medium, Medium, Medium/Deep and Deep.

CoverGirl Perfect Blend Eyeliner in 135 Cobalt Blue ($6.99) - It's not the best eyeliner ever but it's a solid smokey liner option from the drugstore. It glides smoothly with a decent amount of pigment. If you want a bold liner, you'll need a couple of layers. The Perfect Blend Eyeliner has a smudger sponge, which pairs perfectly with the texture of the liner. This one isn't meant for precise points, more smudgy, smokey looks as it needs to be set with a shadow for longevity. Oh and let's not forget the colour. Festival season is upon us and the blue is trendy without being over the top.

The CoverGirl Perfect Blend Eyeliner is available in 6 shades - black brown, mink, smokey taupe, charcoal, basic black and cobalt blue.

Olay 4-in-1 Daily Facial Cloths ($8.99) - Lately, I've been taking it all off with the Olay 4-in-1 Daily Facial Cloths. They're dry wipes that become activated by water and do the cleansing, exfoliating, toning and hydrating all in one go. The cloths are effective at removing both eye makeup and face makeup and my skin doesn't feel stripped after using the wipes. They're a good in-between for those who are too lazy to do all the cleansing/toning/exfoliating steps individually but aren't comfortable with a skincare routine consisting of a single makeup wipe.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Cremes in 244 Sonic Truth and 246 Slow Burn

The search for the ultimate nude lipstick continues. Today's contenders are the Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Cremes ($38) in 244 Sonic Truth and 246 Slow Burn.

As per usual, Marc Jacobs is killing it with the packaging. These lipsticks have a nice weight to them and the magnetic snap closure is so satisfying to open and close. Marc Jacobs calls it "the sound of luxury". I'm inclined to think it is.

Marc Jacobs claims that the Lip Cremes have instant plumping and nourishing properties and provide 10 hours of wear. The lipsticks contain peptides, seaberry and cocoa butter, which do contribute to the smooth and hydrating texture of the lipstick. Something about the texture of the lipstick wraps around the lips impeccably, which makes for quite the application experience.

For a lipstick with so much moisture content, the colour payoff is impressive. Colours like Slow Burn and Sonic Truth from other brands would take multiple layers for opacity, but the Marc Jacobs Lip Cremes only require one swift swipe. Also, the Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Cremes are said to smell like a subtle vanilla but I can't pick up on it.

Swatches: Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Cremes in 244 Sonic Truth and 246 Slow Burn

The Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Cremes are available in 26 shades. There a couple other nude-ish shades such as No Angel 242 (apricot nude) and True (brown nude).

Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Creme in 244 Sonic Truth

Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Creme in 246 Slow Burn

244 Sonic Truth is a cool pinky nude, while 246 Slow Burn is a slightly warmer, rosier nude that translates on the lips as a mauve. I find Sonic Truth to be a bit pale for my liking. It looks okay on camera but not as great in person. 246 Slow Burn is a my lips but mauve/nude shade. I think it's a flattering nude on my complexion but it edges ever so slightly on being a purply pink mauve.

Overall, I'm impressed by these lipsticks. Initially, I had thought that the formulation would stand up to the price tag. However, the Marc Jacobs Beauty Le Marc Lip Cremes are a formula like nothing I've really tried before. Further, I'll probably be ditching all my other nude-ish lipsticks for 246 Slow Burn this season.

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer in Light Medium

If you liked the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation, then boy, will you appreciate this new launch. On June 15th, Too Faced is releasing the Too Faced Born This Way Concealer ($39). And spoiler alert(!!), it's just as good as the foundation.

The Too Faced Born This Way Concealer is one of the many unreleased products that I received at Generation Beauty. There, I got colour matched to the shade Light Medium. The Born This Way Concealer is available in 10 shades - very fair, fair, light, light medium, medium tan, tan, deep tan, dark and deep. Light Medium is a good all-rounder (acne scarring and under eye circles) - slightly yellow but not too much so. For reference, Natalie of Ivory Avenue wears very fair.
Like the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation, the concealer is infused with coconut water (it smells of coconut too!) and hyaluronic acid for moisture, hydration, and radiance. While I can't yet say anything about the skincare claims, the concealer feels almost watery yet so high coverage at the same time.  Kind of like the Sephora Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer or the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer but more coverage. A little goes a long, long way and you only need a couple dabs to cover up imperfections and dark circles.

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer in Light Medium compared to the  NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard, Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 25 Sand, Sephora Bright Future Gel Serum Concealer in 10.5 Blondie.

What's amazing is that despite the thin, watery texture, the Too Faced Born This Way Concealer is long-wearing. I find that most concealers disappear or begin to look a little weird/gross after the 6 hour mark. Through, sweat, tears and maybe even a little blood, the Too Faced Born This Way Concealer stays put for 9+ hours without creasing, smearing or wearing away.

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer in Light Medium Before and After Comparison

The Too Faced Born This Way Concealer in Light Medium is comfortable, long-wearing, high-coverage and really makes my skin feel perfect. I find the price point to be a tad high at $39 but worth it if you want to invest in a stellar product.

THREE THINGS: Kisses from Quo // #Quo2016

As mentioned in a previous post, Quo Cosmetics just launched a bunch of new beauty products. It's only fitting that I've tried several of their lip products (those are my favourite to test out!). While there are regular lipstick additions to the Quo line, the brand is also introducing a liquid lipstick and a glossy stain.

Quo Colour Lust Lipstick in Red Devil

Quo Colour Lust Lipstick in Red Devil ($14) - The Colour Lust Lipsticks are your "classic" lipstick formulation from the Quo Cosmetics line. They're creamy with fab colour payoff and  a slightly sheeny finish. The lipstick reminds me of the Quo Velvet Kiss Lipsticks with a little less shine, as it feels just as comfortable on the lips and lasts 4-5 hours. Red Devil is a medium/deep red with a slight brown undertone. The Quo Colour Lust Lipsticks are available in 6 shades - Gossip Session, Sinbad, Red Devil, Serenade, Pink Wisp and Mamba.

Quo Lip Velour in Amazing

Quo Lip Velour in Amazing ($12) - The Quo Lip Velour is described as a "radiant matte liquid lipstick". I'm assuming radiant means non-drying and comfortable because it's very matte with only the slightest of sheens. Also, it doesn't make my lips feel tight like the Kat Von D or ColourPop Ultra Satin Liquid Lipsticks but lasts the same amount of time - about 6 hours through eating and drinking. Amazing is a deep fuchsia, a little much for my everyday preferences but pretty for special occasions. The Quo Lip Velour is available in 6 shades - Drama Queen, Amazing, Fired Up, Mango Tango, Razzmatazz, and Tickle Me Pink. I haven't seen too many good liquid lipstick options at the drugstore.

Quo Stain'n Love Lip Gloss  in Mauvelous (not yet blotted)

Quo Stain'n Love Lip Gloss  in Mauvelous ($14) - Gotta love a good song-inspired beauty product. The shade Mauvelous is the last thing from a mauve. It's more of a hot pink berry. Regardless, it's a beautiful colour. On first application, it's crazy bold and feels like a non-sticky balm/gloss. So pretty but it moves around easily on the lips, so it's not the most practical or long-wearing lip product. But blot it down and you get a soft pink stain that lasts for hours. The Quo Stain'n Love comes in 4 shades - Mauvelous, Romanced, Eclipse and Curious.

What's your fave lipstick of the moment?

The Perfect Blow Dry

I've always been an air-dry kind of gal but lately the humidity (and maybe age/stress?) has been getting to my hair. So, I've been needing the help of a good ole blow dry to combat what would have been a frizzy, tangled mess. Here's what's been working for me to achieve the perfect blow dry:

Sephora Mini Blast Travel Ionic Blowdryer, Shu Uemura Art of Hair Wonder Worker Air Dry/Blow Dry Perfector, Tangle Teezer Blow Styling Hair Brush

Sephora Mini Blast Travel Ionic Blowdryer ($33) - This tool is small and lightweight but powerful. It has a dual voltage switch so that it can be used globally. The lack of weightiness means my arm doesn't get tired from drying my hair. There's not much else I can say about this blowdryer other than the fact it gets the job done without making my hair frizzy or feeling damaged.

Shu Uemura Art of Hair Wonder Worker Air Dry/Blow Dry Perfector ($42) - This is a 7-in-1 multitasker. Yes, it's pricey but it does it all - hydrate, detangle, smooth, condition, boost radiance, tame frizz and add silkiness. The Shu Uemura Wonder Worker Air Dry/Blow Dry Perfector takes all the confusion out of which hair product I need to make my locks look good. It contains Moringa Oil but it's not the least bit oily looking in my hair. I also use it when air-drying my hair and the effect is equally as wonderful as blow-drying.

Tangle Teezer Blow Styling Hair Brush (full size, ~$37.50) - Last but not least is a new hair brush that I've been trying out. It's designed to make blowdrying faster while smoothing hair. I find the bristles to be quite stiff and sharp but if your scalp can handle it, it's worth a little pain. The Blow Styling Hair Brush reduces my frizz while reducing blow-drying time by at least 20% (usually it takes me  It also comes in a half-size for those with shorter hair.

Peanut Butter Banana Baked Oatmeal

Plain oatmeal is not my thing. But bake it in the oven with a little sugar, spice and everything nice and it's instantly transformed into something I actually want to eat in the mornings.

Baked oatmeal is so versatile. I've done chocolate chip baked oatmeal, apples + cinnamon baked oatmeal and pear + cinnamon baked oatmeal, and coconut baked oatmeal - all delicious! Peanut butter and banana are the perfect breakfast combo. And I even add a little Nutella if my sweet tooth is bugging me.

I'll usually make this recipe on a Sunday morning in order to prep for the rest of the week.

Peanut Butter and Banana Baked Oatmeal

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract

The OPI Alice Through the Looking Glass Collection ($12.50 CAD each), coincides with the release of the Disney movie, Alice Through the Looking Glass -- featuring Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska! Alice in Wonderland is a cartoon, Disney filled trip down memory lane for me.
OPI Alice Through the Looking Glass Collection

OPI What Time Isn't It? Swatch

OPI What Time Isn't It is a "special edition" shade. They're all "special edition" but this one comes in its own exclusive Alice Through the Looking Glass Collection. It's a cream grey polish filled with silver confetti. It's opaque in 2 coats and is probably the most unique of the collection.

OPI A Mirror Escape Swatch

It's hot and humid outside but for some reason OPI A Mirror Escape feels like New Years Eve in a bottle. The yellowy gold is very winter holiday and the specks of white are like snowflakes. This one's opaque in 2 coats.

OPI Fearlessly Alice Swatch

OPI Fearlessly Alice is a bright, "Alice's dress" blue. When I wear it, my nails look like skittles! It's opaque in 2 coats.

OPI Having a Big Head Day Swatch

OPI Having a Big Head Day is a cream medium fuchsia. I don't find this one particularly unique. It's opaque in 2 coats.

OPI Oh! My Majesty Swatch

OPI Oh! My Majesty is an iridescent white with a pink pearl. It's surprisingly non-streaky and opaque in 3 coats.

OPI I'm Gown For Anything Swatch

OPI I'm Gown For Anything is a pastel lilac. It reminds me of Lilac Fairy from the Formula X Mary Hellen Bowers Collection. Super chic and also office appropriate.

OPI The I's Have It Swatch

OPI The I's Have It is a bright pastel blue. Very Alice in Wonderland. It's opaque in 3 coats.

OPI What's the Hatter with You? Swatch

OPI What's the Hatter with You? is a deep berry purple. It's not very summery but it is very pretty. It's opaque in 2 coats.

OPI Mad for Madness Sake Swatch

OPI Mad for Madness Sake is a red with a slight orange lean. Spicy. It's opaque in 2 coats.

Overall, I'm loving the inspiration from the OPI Through the Looking Glass Collection. The colours pair well with the movie. My favourite from this particular collection is What Time Isn't It?, as it's the most unique and the most fun!

What's your favourite from this OPI collection?

Quo Glow Blush Stick in Pizazz // #Quo2016

A bright pink cream blush screams summer to me and the Quo Glow Blush Stick in Pizazz is the perfect product for the job.

Pizazz is a medium pink leaning ever so slightly blue. The Quo Glow Blush Stick is available in 3 shades - Cosmic, Pizazz and Sundown.

The Quo Glow Blush Stick in Pizazz ($15) looks very similar to the GOSH Giant Blush in Pink Parfait ($18). Both are available at Shopper Drug Mart. While the application feels a bit different (the GOSH is a tad more matte feeling and the Quo has a slightly stickier satin sheen), both blushes have the same look at the end of it all, a soft matte finish. The Quo Glow Blush in Pizzaz lasts on my skin for about 6-7 hours, fading away evenly.

Swatched:Quo Glow Blush Stick in Pizazz, blended

I like that the intensity of the blush can be customized to your needs. For the boldest pop of blush, I apply the stick directly to the skin and pat lightly to blend the edges. For a more diffused look, I swirl a stippling brush on the stick and apply the product onto my face from there.

Wearing the Quo Glow Blush Stick in Pizazz, Quo Back to Basics Eyeshadow in Prim, Quo Double Agent Brow Lifter and Eye Brightener, Quo Art of Lining Brush Tip Eyeliner, Quo Stainin' in Love Lip Gloss in Mauvelous, CoverGirl Clean Matte BB Cream, Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting 3-in-1 Brow, Make Up For Ever Excessive Lash Mascara

Overall, the Quo Glow Blush Stick in Pizazz is a beautiful formula in the perfect colour for the summer.

Make Up For Ever Excessive Lash Mascara

$

Coming this Summer 2016... The Make Up For Ever Excessive Lash Mascara. It's another one of those exclusive sneak peeks that I received at Generation Beauty Toronto. According to Make Up For Ever, the Excessive Lash creates long lasting panoramic volume that fans out for a truly dramatic eye opening effect.

Make Up For Ever also says that the Excessive Lash Mascara has a brush that provides a no-clump application with an intense look and has a smudge-proof formulation. The brush is pretty standard albeit a little smaller than most, which is perfect for my itty bitty lashes and very small eyes. I haven't gotten mascara on my eyelid with this one thus far.

"Fanned out", "lengthened" and "separated"are the perfect words to describe the effects of the Make Up For Ever Excessive Lash Mascara. "Volumized" isn't really in there. Neither is "holds a curl"... the drooping is real after 3 hours.

I don't find the mascara to be particularly non-clumping. Two generous coats and the mascara definitely clumps on my sparse lashes. One coat is plenty for dramatic and eye-opening lashes. As promised, the mascara is smudge-proof. I wore it on a bike ride and it stayed pretty fresh looking for the rest of the day.

Does it lengthen? Definitely. Does it volumize? No. Does it clump? Yes. Does it smudge? No. Does it Droop? Yes. Is it Easy to Remove? Yes.

The Make Up For Ever Excessive Lash Mascara will likely be sold at the $25 - $30 CAD price point, so it's quite high up there for a product with a 3 to 6 month life time. It's a very good mascara formulation but not perfect if your lashes are straight, short and stubborn like mine.

What Make Up For Ever mascaras have you tried?

Received in the Generation Beauty Toronto Stylist Goodie Bag.
