Contouring and highlighting kits are STILL a thing. With the Estee Lauder New Dimension Shape + Sculpt Face Kit ($50), Estee Lauder says "now every angle becomes your best angle". It's a nice thought, maybe a bit of a stretch but accentuating the angles of my very round face with makeup never hurt.

The Estee Lauder New Dimension Shape + Sculpt Face Kit comes in one universal shade. The contour and highlight colours and finish remind me a lot of the Stila Shape and Shade Custom Contour Duo in Light because they're both matte, though Estee Lauder's contour is ever so slightly less orange. The New Dimension Shape + Sculpt Face Kit is highly bendable and feels light on the skin. I imagine it to be pretty universal since the formulation of the New Dimension Shape + Sculpt Face Kit is highly blendable.

In comparison to the Stila Shape and Shade Custom Contour Duo, Estee Lauder's Shape + Sculpt Face Kit formulation is a tad more waxy and also less sticky, which I find easier to work into the skin because as I blend with a brush or sponge, a wetter formula is more likely to become patchy. The soft, waxy texture also makes for better lasting power - an hour or so longer than Stila's version (6-7 hours on non-oily areas).

As an aside, the reflective blue packaging is gorgeous... but incredibly difficult to photograph in all kinds of light.

To contour, I used the my fingers to apply the darker shade above the jaw, earlobe and chin, under the cheekbones, above the temples. To highlight, I applied the lighter shade on the centre of my forehead, cupids bow and chin, and the tops of my cheekbones. You could probably blend the product into nothingness if you wanted. It's a very natural look and the tones of both the contour and highlight appear to be the right shades for the shadows and highlights of my skin. The product doesn't emphasize or hide flaws or fine lines but it simply sits atop foundation. For my oilier areas, the product needs to be set or else it disappears within a few hours.

I'm still preferential to powder contours and I finally found out why. I like to build colour on my face (with powders) rather than take it away (with creams). Regardless, the Estee Lauder New Dimension Shape + Sculpt Face Kit is a great product capable of helping you out with those angles.

What's your best angle?
