Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a presentation of the Kat Von D Fall 2015 collection featuring Erik Soto, Kat Von D's Global Makeup Artist. Erik showcased some of the new releases through two makeup looks and discussed some of his favourite tips and tricks using the products from the line. Near the end of the presentation, Kat Von D casually popped in. Julie and I freaked out. Jaws dropped. Selfies were taken. Basically, the best surprise ever.

The "Natural" Look

A standout product during the presentation seemed to be the Kat Von D Lock-it Featherweight Primer. Erik demonstrated the versatility of the primer, best used as a mixing medium. He explained that the primer (in addition to being used under foundation) can be used to create the following:
  • Long wearing blush by mixing the primer with the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick
  • Liquid luminizer by mixing the primer with the Metal Crush Eyeshadow in Thunderstruck (metallic pearl)
  • Medium coverage, dewy foundation by mixing 1 part primer and 1 part Lock-it Tattoo Foundation
The "David Bowie" Look

Erik also mentioned a few tips for wearing the very popular Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks:
  • Prep the lips the night before with the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask
  • Immediately before applying the liquid lipstick, avoid using an oily base. Use something with a thinner texture so that it doesn't mess with the volatile oil in the liquid lipstick.
  • Don't mush your lips together to disperse the product. Applying the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick is comparable to nail polish. If you squish two of your wet nails together it smudges, as will the liquid lipstick. Instead, use the doe foot applicator to apply the product on the upper and lower lips separately and let the product dry.

Oh and we previewed the fabulous new products for Fall 2015, including high-pigment Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadows ($25) , new shades of the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($24) and new shades of the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipsticks ($25). Reviews on these goodies coming soon!
