Put simply, the Clarisonic Smart Profile is like a versatile electric toothbrush for your face, body and feet. It's one device that does a LOT of things.
Clarisonic says that the Smart Profile is the next generation of sonic cleansing devices. It’s a cutting-edge device that Clarisonic describes in three words – Smarter, Easier and More Powerful. According to a Clarisonic clinical study, the Smart Profile was shown to remove makeup 11X better than hands and remove 30X more skin-damaging pollution than manual cleansing.
The only face brush that I’ve tried that could come remotely close to the technology Clarisonic is the Olay Fresh Effects Va-Va-Vivid! Powered Contour Cleansing System, which by the way is a battery-powered brush that retails for $10 and only a hair better than manual fingertip cleansing. The Clarisonic Smart Profile($299) was a massive upgrade for me. I’ve been testing it out since mid-June.
What’s inside the box:
- Clarisonic Smart Profile Device
- 2-in-1 Dynamic Facial Brush Head
- Turbo Massage Brush Head
- Drying Stand + Charger
- Clarisonic Refining Skin Polish
The Clarisonic can be used with ANY of the brush heads available. The 2-in-1 Dynamic Facial Brush Head and the Turbo Massage Brush Head both are “Smart Brush Heads” which means they use RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Technology to automatically adjust power, timing and frequency of the Smart Profile. There are different modes, depending on what part of your body you want to use it on and which brush you’re using:
face
> Smart Mode (with the 2-in-1 Dynamic Facial Brush Head)– 1 minute total - 20 seconds for the forehead, 20 seconds for the nose and chin, 10 seconds for each cheek with different power settings for specific areas of the face
> Manual Mode(with any face brush) - 1 minute total - 20 seconds for the forehead, 20 seconds for the nose and chin, 10 seconds for each cheek with one of four speed options
body
> Smart Mode(with the Turbo Massage Brush Head) – 3 minutes total – 30 second pulsating foaming massage, 2 minutes continuous full body cleanse, 30 seconds pulsating finishing massage
> Manual Mode(with any body brush) - one of three speed options
feet
> Using the Pedi Smoothing Disc or Pedi Wet/Dry Buffing Brush Head will turn the Smart Profile into a Clarisonic Pedi device. *Note: I haven’t yet tried the Pedi functions because I don’t have the brushes.
For all of the functions there’s a TURBO button, which you can hold to temporarily increase the power at any speed setting for an extra deep cleanse. In addition to these features, there’s also an indicator for when you need to replace your brush head and when the battery needs to be charged.
At first, all the options were a little overwhelming. What worked best for me was to let the device do all the thinking in “Smart Mode”. It was ridiculously easy to use. All I had to do was move the brush head around on my face in small circular motions. I tried doing my regular make-up removal routine and then proceeded to use the Smart Profile on my face – the brush head is white so it revealed all the makeup that had still lingered on my face. In the first week of Clarisonic, I DID get the forever feared breakout/skin purge that everyone who had already tried previous versions of the Clarisonic warned me about. It came in the form of little bumps around my nose and mouth area. After another week of use, purge had ended and I noticed small but positive improvements to my skin – increased smoothness, fewer dry patches around my nose, and less excess oil around my t-zone. My skin isn't perfect but something about the texture of my skin has changed. As for my body, the massaging function really relaxing, especially when paired with a hot bath. I haven't noticed any skin improvements on my body but the body function is a different experience from my usual loofah.
The good: It’s an all-in-one user-friendly cleansing device for face, body and feet depending on which brush head you’re using. There are a LOT of functions, and you can customize the device to your unique preferences in terms of which brush head, which speed, and where. On the face, it most certainly does the job at cleansing – much better than anything I was using previously.
The bad: It’s pricey but a serious skincare investment considering that it’s such a powerful cleansing device.
All in all, the Clarisonic Profile is unlike any other cleansing method that I’ve ever tried. Perhaps not totally mind blowing (because it reminds me SO much of an electric toothbrush) but most certainly an innovation in the world of skincare technologies.
Have you tried a Clarisonic device? What did you think?
