What is Think Dirty? Think Dirty is an app that helps consumers to make clean beauty choices. The main functionality of the app is a barcode scanner and product database. The database includes over 600,000 products, each rated on a scale from 1 to 10 based on the carcinogenity, developmental and reproductive toxicity, allergenicity and immunotoxicity of the ingredients (0 being clean, 10 being high toxicity). If a product is rated 10, the app recommends products with better ratings.
The Think Dirty Curated Beauty Box ($95 USD) is a partnership with rated clean 0-3 beauty companies. The box includes 8 hand-picked products and is said to have a $180+ USD value. Beauty boxes are always a point of excitement for me, and clean beauty alternatives interest me (though I can say that most of my collection would probably be have a "bad" rating).
About week ago, I received a picked up a box from Think Dirty HQ for the purposes of doing a review. Here's what was inside:
WHAT EXCITED ME:
- FitGlow Beauty Good Gloss in Cherry ($24) - The FitGlow Beauty Good Gloss has the scent of a MAC lip gloss but feels less sticky. It's a medium opacity gloss with a good amount of shine. Cherry is a neutral berry shade, perfect for everyday wear.
- Moondani Natural Breath Mist x 2 ($12.99) - I don't typically chew gum because the waste is not great for the environment. The Moondani Natural Breath Mist is a great sugar-free alternative!
- nyl Skincare Bath Soak Trio ($24) - Bath products get me every time. This trio includes a shimmer soak, salt soak and coconut jasmine bath soak. All three smell delightful and are packaged beautifully.
- Lymph Candy Deodorant in Lavender ($3, not pictured) - Most of the natural deodorants that I've tried come in a pot form, which is annoying to use because it gets stuck underneath my nails. The Lymph Candy Deodorant is in stick form - handy!
WHAT I'M COOL WITH:
- Nature Bare Body Care For Harsh Hands Hydrating Hand Butter ($5.50) - A whipped texture, shea butter-based hand cream. It's a tad greasy for me but very hydrating for my hands. It doesn't excite me but my hands are always in need of a little moisture, especially during the winter.
- Radha Organics Anti-Aging Younger Face Cream ($13.25) - I use face cream daily, so another one doesn't hurt. As a plus, it's 100% vegan and all natural.
WHAT DID NOT EXCITE ME:
- St. Tropica Hair Mask ($15 for 3) - While the hot-oil treatment is an interesting concept, I'm not a fan of 3 of the same product in one box. What if I don't like it? I'll probably just give it to a friend. I like variety in my boxes.
- Elixir Apothecary Pink Himalayan Sea Salt Scrub (1 oz. sample valued at $1.87) - Same gripe as above, three of the same thing and sample sized. I know I didn't pay for this box but $95 is not inexpensive.
- Antonia Naturals Mango Butter Lip Balm ($3.50) - I am into the mango scent but I have about 6 opened lip balms on the go. It's not a bad product, it just doesn't cater to my needs.
TOTAL VALUE: $103 USD. The $180+ USD value claim made on Think Dirty's website is a bit overstated but you get what you pay for here, not much more or less. (Get $5 off with the code IZE5OFF)
Overall, I think that the Think Dirty Limited Edition Valentine's Curated Beauty Box is a good buy. The value isn't amazing but it is nice to see a company that looks educates consumers while providing clean alternatives to everyday beauty products.
