There's all sorts of rumours going around that the CoverGirl Colorlicious Oh Sugar! Lip Balms ($7.99) are dupes of the FRESH Sugar Tinted Lip Treatments ($28 CAD). They're not. Sure both products have the word sugar and both are tinted balms but they're different.
The CoverGirl Colorlicious Oh Sugar! Lip Balms are a vitamin-infused, tinted lip product. They contain Grapeseed Oil, Avocado Butter and Vitamins C and E. There are 10 shades available - Punch, Spice, Taffy, Caramel, Candy, Cupcake, Gumdrop, Jelly, Sprinkle & Soda. Shown above are Gumdrop and Soda.
The bullet itself feels much waxier than the FRESH Sugar Lip Treatments, which pretty much fall out of the tube in the summer. When the the Covergirl Oh Sugar! Lip Balms touch the lips, they immediately melt into a thin, smooth, silky balm with a glossy finish. In fact, with a few layers of the Oh Sugar! it pretty much looks like you're wearing a lip shiny gloss but without the stickiness.
The FRESH Sugar Lip Treatments smell of citronella, whereas the CoverGirl Oh! Sugar Lip Balms smell like fruit punch. Funny enough, the aroma reminds me of a lighter scented version of the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipsticks as well as the Sephora Kiss Me Balms. Actually, the feel of the Oh Sugars are akin to the Sephora Kiss Me Balms, which just so happen to be the same price.
The colours are semi-sheer. They'll definitely show up on your lips but can't be built to opacity. Wear time is typical of sheer lipsticks - 2 hours... maybe less but both Gumdrop and Soda leave an I just drank some grape juice stain on the lips.
Gumdrop is a purple/berry tone while Soda is a red/berry tone. Both look very similar when applied to the lips, though Soda has a touch more red to it.
CoverGirl Colorlicious Oh Sugar! Lip Balm in 7 Soda swatched
The CoverGirl Colorlicious Oh Sugar! Lip Balms are not a dupe for the FRESH Sugar Lip Treatments. However, they're affordable, wearable, comfortable and offer just the right amount of colour for someone who isn't into 100% opaque lipsticks. Oh. And they're totally a dupe for the Sephora Kiss Me Lip Balms.
