New Orleans is the inspiration of OPI's latest Spring 2016 Collection. The collection features 12 shades that capture the sprit of the city.
Having never been to New Orleans myself, the only things I know about New Orleans come from Beyonce's Formation music video and the Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals. So here's a snippet from the brand:
"From the filigreed iron of its balconies to the jazz and jambalaya that permeate its air, New Orleans personifies grace, gumption and joie de vivre. The city’s indomitable spirit is the inspiration for OPI’s spring 2016 collection. New Orleans Collection by OPI features 12 gorgeous new nail lacquers and matching GelColors that take nails and toes from beignets at Café du Monde all the way to nightcaps on Bourbon Street in style. Sweet, spicy, soulful and vibrant, the palette is perfect for a town where parades pop up everywhere, and dancing in the streets is de rigueur."The colours in the collection are indeed a little sweet (hence the pinks and peaches) but also a little spicy (the hot red) and with lots of pops of colour (purples, blues and green). I found most of the shades to be opaque in 2 coats but 3 for the metallics, whites and tans. All of the polishes with the exception of Take a Right On Bourbon (metallic white gold) which was streaky applied beautifully, as expected from OPI.
On to the swatches!
OPI New Orleans Collection Let Me Bayou a Drink (pearlescent off-white)
OPI New Orleans Collection Humidi-Tea (pearlescent light tan)
OPI New Orleans Collection Suzi Nails New Orleans (cream blue-toned baby pink)
OPI New Orleans Collection Got Myself into a Jam-balaya (cream light peachy pink)
OPI New Orleans Collection Spare Me a French Quarter? (cream fuchsia berry)
OPI New Orleans Collection She's a Bad Muffuletta (cream strawberry red)
OPI New Orleans Collection Show Us Your Tips (baby blue with silver glitter)
OPI New Orleans Collection Rich Girls and Po Boys (cream medium blue)
OPI New Orleans Collection Take a Right on Burbon (metallic white gold)
Some of the colours are dupable. When I look at Spare Me a French Quarter? and I Manicure for Beads, I think of the berries from the Crabtree and Evelyn Festive Favourites Collection. The rest of the shades are not totally unique but putting all of the colours together make for a pretty sight. My favourites from the OPI New Orleans Collection are Show Us Your Tips (light blue with silver glitter), Catfishin' For a Compliment (cream light brown peach) and Got Myself into a Jam-balaya (cream light peachy pink).
The OPI New Orleans Collection retails for ($12.50 CAD/ $10 USD) and is available now at professional salons, Beauty Brands, beautybrands.com, Chatters, Dillard’s, Regis, ULTA Beauty and ulta.com
