Schaf is a Canadian skincare line that specializes in gentle products formulated with plant-based ingredients that safely improve the appearance of skin. The range includes just 5 products - a scrub, eye cream, moisturizer, cleanser and shave cream.
Schaf is a gender-neutral brand, hence the simple and to the point packaging. The White Lava Purifying Scrub comes in a bottle that requires squeezing, while the Nutritive Daily Eye Cream and Moisturizer come with pumps (yay for hygiene!). The small line of products makes it simple to navigate, since all five of the products are suitable for all skin types.
As aforementioned, the Schaf White Lava Purifying Scrub ($30) comes in a bottle, sans pump. It's a thick consistency that's annoying to get out of the packaging because (1) you have to shake the product to the top and (2) squeeze the bottle. I feel like squeeze-tube packaging would better suit the White Lava Purifying Scrub. The apricot seeds in the White Lava scrub are very abrasive (dare I say... scratchy). Every time I used it, I was afraid that a little piece would get stuck in my eye and scratch my cornea. It's also super difficult to rinse off. Even despite the slightly rough abrasion, I didn't feel like the scrub did a great job at exfoliating.
As I get closer to my mid-20s, I get concerned about wrinkles and fine lines around my eyes. The Schaf Nutritive Daily Eye Cream ($40) is designed to tackle this. I have a hard time finding an eye cream that is only hydrating. No de-puffing or firming nonsense, I just want hydration. The Nutritive Daily Eye Cream contains Hyaluronic Acid targeted at hydrating, smoothing and replenishing the eye area and Coenzyme Q10 to reduce UV damage and stimulate collagen production. I like it. The only thing I don't like is the scent, which is natural... but weird. The Nutritive Daily Eye Cream is slightly heavier than other eye products that I've tried (most of which provide a cooling sensation that the Schaf one does not). The amount of hydration it provides is amazing. I don't think my undereyes have ever felt better. It takes a bit of time for it to fully sink into my skin but after that the skin around my eyes feels brand new.
The Schaf Nutritive Daily Moisturizer ($45) is said to moisturize skin while fighting environmental damage such as premature aging, fine lines and wrinkles. Like the eye cream, it contains hyaluronic acid with the addition of a blend of avocado, grapeseed, pumpkin and shea butter to deliver oil-free hydration. The product has the same natural scent as the eye cream that I'm not fond of but it fades away within a few minutes of applying. I don't think that it had any significant impact on minimizing premature aging/fine lines, but it feels light on the skin and does the job in making my face feel hydrated but not greasy.
Overall, a great line of gentle products (minus the scrub). While the eye cream and daily moisturizer worked well with my skin, I don't think that I could commit to a Schaf-only skincare routine, as (like most people) I have other skin concerns that the Schaf line does not address such as oiliness and acne, so I need to incorporate other treatments into my skincare routine to supplement the Schaff products. That being said, if you're looking for a straightforward line of skincare (or want to pick up something for a guy friend), Schaf is worth checking out.
