What does sunshine smell like? How about clean skin? I mean... aromas like waffles and gingerbread are pretty distinctive scent memories. But it's not like I can go up to the sun and smell it... nor can I really smell myself when I'm clean (the only thing I can smell is LUSH).

In an attempt to bottle the scents of Sunshine and Clean Skin as fragrances, Demeter has paired the two in their Foolproof Blending Duo Kit ($35), which also includes 4 droppers, a funnel and an extra bottle so you can blend the two together for a DIY scent.

Demeter says that the Demeter Fragrance Library Pick-Me-Up Cologne Spray in Sunshine ($20 for 1oz. individually) smells like a cotton t-shirt left outside to be warmed by the sun. To be honest, I had no idea what to expect. I would say "warm" but warm fragrances of vanilla and musk remind me of winter. When I think of "the smell of sunshine" nothing really comes to mind. And what does cotton smell like? I'm not really sure. It's more like a warm day than a really hot day because on hot days I feel like sunshine = sweat = stink. Rather than B.O., when I spritz Demeter's fragrance interpretation of Sunshine, it's light and a little sweet.

According to Demeter, the Demeter Fragrance Library Pick-Me-Up Cologne Spray in Clean Skin ($20 for 1oz. individually) smells orange, lemon, white rose, bergamot, peach and vanilla. My sad, sad nose can't distinguish any of these scents other than a bit of bergamot and vanilla and maybe some lemon. Compared to other Demeter scents I've tried, this one is more traditional but still special. Compared to something like Carven Eau de Parfum, it's more subtle, lightweight and actually smells like the smell of clean... if you know what I mean... It's not a sudsy or soapy smell, just bit of a perfume scent to perk up your day. Granted, it's nothing that can actually mask the scent of dirty skin. The only remedy for that is a good shower ;). Charles (aka b.f.) really likes this one...so much that I used the extra bottle to pour him some to take home.

Both the scents are very subtle, thus I prefer them on their own so I can tell them apart. Mixed together it's all a blur of subtlety that smells a little like laundry. Not saying that laundry is a bad thing, but I just prefer to smell like Clean Skin OR Sunshine and not both. Note: Demeter actually has a Laundry fragrance which smells much more soapy than the blend of these two. Anyways, I really like what Demeter's come up with for Clean Skin and Sunshine. They're expressions of things that I don't typically think about as having much of an aroma but they ended up being beautiful everyday scents.
