The MAC Oh Darling! In Extra Dimension Skinfinish ($38.50 CAD, limited edition) is not a highlighter for the faint of heart. Oh Darling! is an in-your-face highlight that could be described as a metallic gold that doesn't bother to be natural. It's currently sold out on the MAC website but can be found for suspiciously high prices on e-bay and the like.
According to Julie of Swatch and Review, it was the most anticipated release in the MAC Magic of the Night collection for its similarities to MAC's limited edition Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Whisper of Gilt. I haven't tried/swatched Whisper of Gilt nor do I follow MAC collections but I did look it up on Temptalia and holy geez is it a stunner (as is Oh Darling!)
While the blue metallic packaging is pretty, the casing felt a bit inexpensive and a lot less weighty than what I would have expected at MAC's price point. It isn't such a big deal since what really matters is the product inside.
I think we need to dedicate a moment of each day to the beauty that is MAC's Oh Darling In Extra Dimension Skinfinish. It's a yellowy-bronze gold with a prominent metallic sheen. In other words, it ain't subtle. The metallic sheen is like BAM on your face but can be reduced if applied sparingly with a fan brush. The finish and colour reminds me a lot of the highlighter side of the Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Duo in #2 Golden, except Make Up For Ever's is slightly deeper and less yellow. The colouring of Oh Darling! works well on my yellowy light/medium skin tone but I can imagine that Oh Darling! would look even better on someone a lot darker than me. That being said Oh Darling! also has the potential to be too orangey on lighter skin tones than my own.
The powder itself is neither hard nor buttery (the texture ain't got nothing on the baby's bottom smoothness of Becca's Shimmering Skin Perfectors). It's slightly softer and less waxy feeling than other MAC In Extra Dimension products that I've played with previously, so you can pick up product onto your brush without needing to run your brush over the highlighter more than a few times.
On my skin, it's the perfect golden highlight. It's like Benefit's Watt's Up? but amped up 50x over. It glides over the skin effortlessly without emphasizing lines or pores. It was incredibly difficult to pick up on camera but hopefully you can see the sheen of gold. Wearing Oh Darling! makes my cheekbones look (and feel) like they're part of a golden statue in some pristine-looking European city. Oh, and it's great for that trendy thing called strobing.
Overall, it is love. I would be lying if I told you that I think MAC's In Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Oh Darling! is *not an everyday highlight* because it's too pretty to not douse my face in it on the daily.
Did you get your clutches on Oh Darling!? What's your favourite highlight?
Special thanks to Liz of Stay Gorgeous for this beauty (I won it in one of her giveaways!)
