NEW IN: GOSH Cosmetics for Face & Lips // #MakeYourImpression #BeautifulYou

Denmark beauty brand GOSH Cosmetics just dropped 15 new makeup products into their permanent collection. Prices are comparable to Sephora Collection products at $10 to $30. Here's what's new from GOSH Cosmetics:

Everything GOSH Cosmetics on my face - #FOUNDATIONDROPS in 006, Contour N Strobe on the cheeks and contour, Fibre Gel in the brows, Rebel Eyes Mascara on the lashes, 9 Shades to be Cool in Copenhagen + Giant Pro Liner on the lids and Matt Lipstick in Cranberry on the lips.

GOSH Cosmetics #FOUNDATIONDROPS in 004 Natural and 006 Tawny ($26 CAD) - On application it feels greasy. The GOSH Cosmetics #FOUNDATIONDROPS are infused with Argan Oil to hydrate and soften the skin, which is likely the culprit. The coverage is light to medium with the first layer and buildable to a medium without looking cakey (I still need some concealer for my dark circles). The finish is natural, with a slight dew akin to the Make Up For Ever Water Blend though the GOSH isn't as long lasting.

For my MAC NC30-ish complexion, 004 Natural is too light, 006 Tawny is a tad light for the summer (nothing a bronzer can't fix) and a mix of a couple drops each of 004 Natural and 006 Tawny is good for winter. The foundation isn't long wearing on my oily complexion. It looks a bit funky on my nose and my forehead gets really greasy looking after 4 hours of wear but fares well on the rest of my face. I'd suggest checking out this foundation if you've got drier skin.

Contour N Strobe Kit in Medium ($32 CAD) - Meant to be an all-in-one kit for contouring, this kit contains 1 highlight, 1 blush and 2 contour/bronzer shades. The texture of the powders is lovely - smooth, soft, easy to blend and very potentOnly a light tap onto the pan is necessary to get enough for one side of the face. The powders are fairly long lasting and fade evenly after 6 to 7 hours of wear. In terms of colour, I found the highlight too much of a yellowy gold, so it looked more editorial than wearable on my cheekbones. The blush is warm pink perfection. The deeper contour is a bit too red for my liking but decent as a bronzer, while the lighter contour has a neutral undertone that works well for my colouring (though if you're deeper than me medium then it might not show up).

Left: Rebel Eyes Mascara; Right: Lash Sculpting Fibre Mascara

GOSH Cosmetics Rebel Eyes Long Wear Volume Mascara

GOSH Cosmetics Rebel Eyes Long Wear Volume Mascara in Black ($17 CAD) - It does an okay job at volumizing but nothing really in the -hold a curl- department, which renders the mascara useless for my needs. On the bright side, it doesn't smudge and isn't particularly hard to remove.

GOSH Lash Sculpting Fibre Mascara in Black

GOSH Lash Sculpting Fibre Mascara in Black ($17 CAD) - Similar to the Rebel Eyes Long Wear Volume Mascara but adds slightly more volume. Same issue though, doesn't hold a curl.

GOSH Cosmetics Velvet Touch Matt Lipstick in Matt Cranberry ($14 CAD) - About a year ago, I had a love affair with the Classic Red and Cranberry shades of the GOSH Velvet Touch Matt Lipsticks. In a nutshell, they're amazing - comfortable, matte, long-wearing, bold. The shade Matt Cranberry isn't overly vampy as it has a bit of a mauve tone to it. LOVE.

Velvet Touch Lip Liner in Nougat ($10 CAD) - Smooth to apply but the nude colour looks like nothing on my lips. I'm not one for lip liners, especially in this nude shade.

GOSH Cosmetics Lumi Drops in Peach - top is unblended, bottom is blended

GOSH Cosmetics Lumi Drops in Peach ($17 CAD) - Looks stunning when swatched but the Lumi Drops in Peach don't really show up on my face unless I'm looking really hard. That being said, there's not a lot of shimmer so if you're looking for a product to add a radiant glow to your foundation this might be it.

9 Shades to Be Cool in Copenhagen ($20 CAD) - A gorgeous palette of 9 mattes. A majority are cool-toned if that's what you dig. The shadows are soft, pigmented and easy to blend. There is a bit of fallout so apply sparingly.

GOSH Cosmetics Giant Pro Liner in Blacker than Black ($16 CAD) - Looks exactly the same as KISS NY Pro Dead Sexy Liner. The Giant Pro Liner is fairly black but the jumbo felt tip makes precision a bit more difficult than the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper, though it does make application fairly quick. It's long-wearing, lasting an entire day without bleeding or smudging.

Forever Matt Eye Shadow Stick in Dark Brown and Nougat ($14 CAD)

GOSH Cosmetics Brow Sculpting Fibre Gel in Chestnut ($17 CAD) - Think Benefit Gimmie Brow and Essence Make Me Brow... but turned up notch! If you look closely at the formula, there's actually little bitty hairs inside. It's got a lot of pigment, which allows me to build up my brows and add volume faster while still keeping them looking fluffy (instead of crispy) and natural. Also noteworthy, the dark brown shade Chestnut suits my black hair quite well. Unfortunately, there's only two shades, so it won't be for everyone - Nutmeg and Chestnut.

Congratulations if you've gotten to the bottom of this post. There's a ridiculous number of products to look forward to from GOSH. My top picks are the Matt Lipstick, the Brow Sculpting Fibre Gel and the Forever Matt Eye Shadow Sticks.

IMATS Toronto 2016 Photos, Haul and #NYXAfterDark After Party

Every year, the International Makeup Artist Trade Show is held in several cities all over the world including New York, Los Angeles, London, Vancouver, Sydney and [most importantly] Toronto. Located at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, my third year at IMATS Toronto was similar but different from the previous two years.

In 2016, we (me, Zubie, Shawna and Miranda) decided to head to IMATS in the afternoon instead of beating the crowds in the morning. It worked out well because I had eaten a hearty meal and got lots of rest before standing in lines and pushing through crowds of people at the show.

Jordan Liberty for Veil Cosmetics

Like previous years, there was tons of exhibitors selling everything you could ever need for your makeup collection or kit. There was also the Battle of the Brushes, a museum of special effects makeup and several speakers. One of the biggest highlights was seeing makeup artist and Youtuber Jordan Liberty (of Give Good Face/ @notamagicwand) in action.

The Iron Throne [of Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks]

Nigel's Beauty Emporium (retailer of Too Faced, Kevin Aucoin, etc.) and FarleyCo Beauty (Canadian distributor of Zoella Beauty, Real Techniques, Co:Lab Dry Shampoo) weren't in attendance this year. There were several new brands at the show like Kat Von D Beauty, Dermablend, Lime Crime and Koko Lashes.

I spent exactly $67.50 at IMATS:
  • Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow in Thunderstruck - I've been yearning for this pearly eyeshadow with a pink/yellow iridescence to brush all over my face since seeing Kat Von D's makeup artist Eric Soto use it in a look. The booth took credit card only but the deals were amazing. I picked up the metal crush shadow for $17.50 CAD with no tax and 2 mini samples of the Tattoo Liner and the Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Exorcism
  • Beauty Blender Pro x 3 - Beauty Blenders are a must for applying high coverage foundations. I prefer black over pink or nude because they're easier to clean. At the Virtzu booth, I split a 6-pack with Zubie for $100 cash. Beauty Blenders are regularly $28 each and we got ours for $16.66 each.
  • Clinique Take the Day Off Makeup Wipes - Received as a free sample pack. The wipes sting my lips and eyes slightly but work nicely on the rest of my face.

After IMATS, I attended the #NYXAfterDark After Party at the Wildflower at the Thompson Hotel. There, I hung out with some of my favourite Canadian Beauty Bloggers, ate appetizers and took home a generous bag of NYX swag that included the 8 NYX #NoFilter Finishing Powder, 9 Illuminating Sticks, 5 Suede Lip Liners, 2 Soft Focus Tinted Primers and 2 pairs of Be Wicked False Eyelashes.

All in all, a good day spent with great company! Looking forward to IMATS next year.

Did you attend IMATS this year?

FTC: I received a complimentary press pass to IMATS. NYX products were gifted.

The Month in Nail Art - September 2016 - Marc Jacobs, Blair Eadie, and more!

It seems like I've dubbed this month as "Striping Tape September"...

Marc Jacobs Beauty Air Blush in Lines & Last Night

My proudest nail art moment this month! I was looking at the stunning Marc Jacobs Air Blushes and had an epiphany. I thought to myself, "How pretty would this striped pattern look on my fingertips? SO PRETTY?". It turned out exactly how I imagined and the execution was quite simple.

Blair Eadie (Atlantic // Pacific) Formula X Color Curators

Blair Eadie (Director at Tory Burch and Atlantic // Pacific blogger) has created my favourite Formula X collection yet. The moody-coloured polishes are right up my alley. The blue hues are wearable but not your regular old nude polish. I created two looks for when I reviewed the collection. I think the first one is too boring for me but the second one has too much going on...

Negative Space Grid

I wasn't sure what to do so I just put striping tape all over my fingertips.

Products Used: Ceramic Glaze Surfs Up + Ceramic Glaze Newly Minted

Graphic and Green

I'm 99% sure I saw this on Instagram in black and white. I freehanded the "steps" with the edge of the nail polish brush and it turned out pretty nicely. Also - ignore the blotchiness on my hand.

Nora the Explorer

Two new things I've been trying. One is the Nora the Explorer Starter Kit from MoYou London. Two is taking photos outside. I think the combination of the two is quite stunning!

Paul & Joe Beauté a Stroll in the Park in Paris Collection for Fall 2016

$

A Stroll in the Park in Paris by Paul & Joe Beauté isn't your typical fall collection. It's sweet, chic and not at all vampy or intense. The collection is inspired by colourful autumns in Paris - nudes and neutrals to accent the elegant and romantic shades of the season.

The collection contains 3 Paul & Joe Eye Color CS ($26 CAD), 2 Paul & Joe Cheek Colors CS - like the Guerlain Meteorites but with CAT shaped pearls ($48 CAD), 3 Paul & Joe Lipstick Refills CS ($21 CAD), 3 Paul & Joe Lipstick Cases CS ($7 CAD) and 2 Paul & Joe Hand Creams ($17 CAD).

I've got two matching pieces from the collection - the Paul & Joe Eye Color CS in A Stroll In the Park (104) and the Paul & Joe Lipstick Refill CS in Snuggle Up (101) with the Lipstick Case 036.

The packaging for these items looks a chic little makeup set that I'd find on my grandma's vanity from 40 years ago. Old school elegance. I have my doubts about the cardboard but so far, the lipstick has held up pretty well in my backpack.

Paul & Joe Beauté Eye Color in a Stroll in the Park (104) and Lipstick Refill CS in Snuggle Up (101)

Paul & Joe Beauté Eye Color in a Stroll in the Park (104)

The Paul & Joe Eye Color CS in A Stroll in the Park features a gradient of greens, inspired by crisp leaves. There's a white gold, khaki green and a deeper olive. Paul & Joe products are made in Japan and these eyeshadows are reminiscent of the preferences of the Asian market - sheer shadows with a subtle iridescent shimmer. The pigments are soft and rich in colour but they blend out in an instant and need to be built up for intensity. They seem to fare well on my oily lids. Without primer, there's no creasing and they fade away after 6-7 hours.

The shadows contain jojoba oil, orange flower extract, rose roxburghii fruit extract, sodium hyaluronate and white lily extract for moisturization and irritation prevention.

Paul & Joe Beauté Lipstick Refill CS in Snuggle Up (101)

The Paul & Joe Beauté Lipstick Refill CS in Snuggle Up (101) is "my lips but shinier". It's semi-sheer warm beige nude that works perfectly as an everyday shade on my complexion. It smells (and tastes) like an old lady's perfume, but if you can put up with that...it's amazing. The lipstick contains cocoa seed butter, jojoba seet oil, lavender oil, orange flower water, and white lily extract which makes for a very smooth application and comfortable wear. As a sheer lipstick, it requires reapplication after 2-3 hours.

Overall, a Stroll in the Park in Paris isn't as bold or deep or vibrant or glamorous as what you might expect from a fall colour collection. But what it is is elegant, subdued and perfectly wearable.

What do you think of this collection?

HALLOWEEN: Harley Quinn (Suicide Squad) Makeup + Video

This one's for all the Suicide Squad and DC Comics fans out there. I was into the messy, crazy, pretty look for Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and the movie and got inspired to re-create it.  It was fun, and fairly simple to do without buying any new beauty things!

Usually I do step by step photos for Halloween stuff. This year, I've upgraded to video format! No talk though. Just a bit of background music. Feel free to watch if you want to see the process from start to finish!

For the eyes, my mindset was the messier the better. That being said, when working with the blue and red eye shadows, I was careful to work with less and less product while moving away from the eyes. For mascara, I went for a clumpy look and applied several coats.

Everything else was straightforward. A medium coverage, natural foundation and a bold red lip. Part way through the video I decided my red was too bright and I used a darker liquid lipstick over the first one.

Do the makeup, put on a tee and shorts and you've got yourself a Halloween costume!

Clinique Sweet Pots Sugar Scrub & Lip Balm in Candied Casis and Pink Framboise

$

The Clinique Sweet Pots Sugar Scrub & Lip Balm ($24 CAD) are two products in one adorable macaron-shaped package. One side is a sugar scrub. The other is a lip balm.

I like that the packaging is cute and colourful yet not tacky or too young. It's also nice and compact for travel but not so ideal for on-the-go because using the product requires you to dip your fingers in it.

The Clinique Sweet Pots are available in 6 shades - 01 Red Velvet, 02 Orange Blossom, 03 Pink Framboise, 04 Sweet Rose, 05 Candied Cassis and 06 Black Honey. I test drove 03 Pink Framboise and 05 Candied Cassis.

Clinique Candied Cassis Lip Balm, Candied Cassis Sugar Scrub, Pink Framboise Lip Balm, Pink Framboise Sugar Scrub Swatches

The lip scrub consists of bits of sugar suspended in balm-like substance. There's a non-food taste with a hint of sugar that's not particularly good or bad. I wouldn't recommend ingesting the excess scrub on your lips after use. The balmy texture of the Clinique lip scrub allows it to stick to the lips, rather than falling off and making a big ol' mess like the LUSH one. It's not overly gritty or painful to use and the scrub leaves my lips feeling free of dry patches without any stinging. In fact, my lips feel moisturized immediately after the scrub so I don't think it's 100% necessary to follow up with the lip balm.

However, you won't be at a loss for using the lip balm after the scrub. The balm is comfortable, unscented, non-sticky and non-oily feeling on the lips. The hydration lasts for about 3-4 hours sans eating and drinking.

The lip balm is described as a sheer tint with instant, long-lasting moisturization. It comforts, nourishes and soothes dry skin. Candied Cassis might look intimidating, while Pink Framboise could seem garish on the lips. But fear not. Both translate as a clear balm on the lips, so "sheer tint" is a serious overstatement.

Overall, these products don't get me jumping off my chair in excitement. However, they're effective and come in the cutest packaging. Furthermore, as someone who forgets to exfoliate and moisturize my lips, I find the Clinique Sweet Pots are super handy to keep on my nightstand to help me prep for the next day.

Ole Henriksen POWER Bright 3-Step Professional Brightening System

$

While most skincare systems are specific to skin types or skin issues like acne, dryness, wrinkles, oiliness, etc., everyone could use a little skin brightening in their lives. The Ole Henriksen POWER Bright 3-Step Professional Brightening System ($66 CAD) promises just that. It claims to be a solution for dullness, uneven skintone, fine lines and wrinkles.

The Ole Henriksen POWER Bright 3-Step Professional Brightening System contains 2 sponges plus 6 sets of three one-time use products - the Ole Henriksen Truth Sugar Glow Polishing Mask, the Ole Henriksen Truth 25% Vitamin C Concentrate, and the Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Melting Cleanser. The Sugar Glow Polishing Mask and Pure Truth Melting Cleanser are also sold separately.

The Ole Henriksen POWER Bright is not recommended for those with sensitive skin, though Sephora says that it's good for normal, oily, combo and dry skin.

Step 1: the Ole Henriksen Truth Sugar Glow Polishing Mask. Apply to clean, damp skin and leave on for 5 to 10 minutes. Apply warm water and massage the product in a circular motion, then rinse clean.

This sugar scrub contains honey, sugar and pomegranate seed powder. It's fairly abrasive (but doesn't hurt!) and leaves the skin feeling thoroughly exfoliated. Describing the mask as "polishing" is particularly apt, given that just after washing Step 1 off, the skin feels smooth and radiant.

Step 2: the Ole Henriksen Truth 25% Vitamin C Concentrate. Apply to dry skin and leave on for 2 to 3 minutes. Do not rinse.

Next up is the Vitamin C Concentrate. It contains 25% stable ascorbic acid, which is a pure form of Vitamin C that is known to provide immediate brightness to the skin. It's a thick, creamy consistency but doesn't feel like a moisturizer, rather it sits atop the skin and dries down slightly similar to a clay mask.

Step 3: the Ole Henriksen Pure Truth Melting Cleanser. Apply over top of the Truth 25% Vitamin C Concentrate and smooth evenly over the face. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes then remove with a damp complexion sponge (included) or face cloth.

The last step is the Pure Truth Melting Cleanser, which is a citrus-fragranced gel cleanser that contains rose hip seed oil, vitamin C and cherry seed. When applied on top of the Vitamin C Concentrate there's an immediate tingle that is less intense than the feeling of a lip plumper. It's as easy pie to remove with the complexion sponges and some lukewarm water.

I've been using the POWER Bright line once a week for about three weeks. Immediately after every use, I felt like my skin was softer, smoother and more hydrated. I haven't seen any noticeable improvements to my dark spots and hyperpigmentation (yet) but my skin feels amazing every time.

All in all, the Ole Henriksen POWER Bright is a stellar treatment for when my skin's feeling gunky and congested. The price tag of $66 seems way up there but it works out to $11 each for 6 at home facials which is not half bad.

Zoella Beauty Soak Opera Bath Soak & Shower Creme + Blissful Mistful Solid Fragrance

$

In case you missed it, Youtuber Zoe Sugg (aka Zoella) has a bath and body range. There's something about listening to a British person speak that is quite charming and calming (hello, Lisa Eldridge, Pixiwoo, etc.). Despite no longer watching all of her videos, I'm not embarrassed to say that I've been subscribed to Zoella for quite a while.

Yes, Zoella is British. But Canadians, don't you fret. Zoella Beauty is available in Canada at select Brunet, Familiprix, Guardian, IDA, Lawtons Drugs, London Drugs, Pharmasave and Uniprix stores in addition to Farleyco.ca. Today, I've got two items from the range to share with you - the Zoella Beauty Soak Opera Bath Soak & Shower Creme + Blissful Mistful Solid Fragrance!

Packaging? Aptly adorable. It's cute, young and fresh but not at all tacky. I feel like any reasonable adult (Zoella fan or not) or young girl would feel be happy to have these items sitting on the side of their bath tub. The tin for the Blissful Mistful Solid Fragrance is so teeny and travel-friendly too!

Zoella Blissful Mistful Solid Fragrance ($9.99 CAD) - The Blissful Mistful Solid Fragrance is described as having floral, feminine notes. The product is textured similarly to a non-sticky lip balm and is easy as pie to apply straight out of the tin. Indeed, the scent is very clean and lasts about 2-3 hours before disappearing. Unfortunately, the scent wasn't for me. To me, it smelled a lot like Pantene shampoo, which isn't a bad thing...but I like my hair to smell like shampoo and not my entire body. That being said, if you're a fan of clean scents, perhaps you might like the Blissful Mistful Solid Fragrance!

Zoella Beauty Bath Soak Opera Soak & Shower Creme ($11.99 CAD) -  I'm more of a shower person than a bath person, so I tested out the product solely as a Shower Creme, squirted onto my nylon exfoliating bath towel. The texture of the Zoella Beauty Bath Soak & Shower Creme is a thin gel that forms a light lather when rubbed into the skin. It's neither drying nor moisturizing. The scent of this one was more up my alley. It's a light, delicate floral. Sometimes I'm sensitive to florals but this one didn't bother me, as it isn't too intense. On another note, the bottle is huge, which is an amazing deal for a bath product.

Overall, one hit and one miss here. In other news, I've heard along the grapevine that Zoe also came out with her own lifestyle range. Congrats to her. Can't wait till that lands in Canada too!

this works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray

$

It's another highly-raved about product from across the pond - the this works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray ($22.08 USD on FeelUnique.com). this works is a UK brand that produces natural products using ingredients sourced from British farms. The brand sells various skincare, bath and body and wellbeing/aromatherapy products.

If you're not familiar with the Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, it's a fragrance that's described as "the miracle solution to a good nights sleep", meant to be spritzed on the pillow. It's scented with 100% pure essential oils including lavender, patchouli, ho wood, vetivert, and chamomile. It's also free of phthalates, sulphates, synthetic colours, fragrance, parabens, GMOs, mineral oils, petrolatum, and propolene glycol. Further, the brand does not test on animals or use animal by-products or hormones. All things that I don't lookfor in a product  but make the product all the more attractive.

At first spritz, the scent isn't overwhelming or perfume-like at all. It's more like the wafting scent of a candle after it's been blown out. The most prominent aromas to my nose are the lavender and chamomile. The spray bottle emits a very fine mist, which my pillow absorbs quite quickly.

The major claims are that the spray (1) helps users to fall asleep faster and (2) makes users feel more refreshed when they wake up. As such, the ingredients are fitting. Lavender is said to have therapeutic qualities relieve tension and insomnia, chamomile supposedly has a sedative and relaxing effect, and vetivert helps to settle the nerves.

While I really, really like the scent before bedtime and I do find that it helps me feel more relaxed, I don't find myself falling asleep faster or waking up refreshed. Typically, when I wake up in the morning, I just want to go back to sleep...it's one of the furthest feelings from that of being "refreshed". Nonetheless, it's a nice-to-have product and seems to work well for others.

Sephora Formula X #ColorCurators Collection 2016 with Huda Beauty #ColorCurators

The October, November and December Formula X Color Curators Collection will feature the one and only Huda Kattan of Huda Beauty. Huda Beauty is what many would consider the top  world's top beauty influencer with 15.2 million followers on Instagram. Formerly working in finance, Huda Kattan is currently a Hollywood trained makeup artist and also has her own cosmetics brand featuring lashes, lip products, henna tattoos and an eyeshadow palette.

Her first set of Formula X polishes is inspired by "the finer things in life". The polishes are aptly named Baroque Babe, Jetsetter and Date Night.

No need for me to gush about the Formula X polish formulation. It's one of my favourites - smooth finish, high opacity, user-friendly brush... shall I continue?

Formula X Baroque Babe is a rose gold glitter. On the nails it looks very similar to Formula X Alchemy II but look a little closer and it appears quite a bit more soft and peachy as opposed to bronze. This one requires two coats for opacity.

Formula X Jetsetter is a black with a fine gunmetal shimmer. I think this one's a great for anyone who loves wearing black polish but is looking for something with a twist. Only one coat for opacity required.

Formula X Date Night is, in my opinion, the most boring of the collection, especially when compared to the other two which are pretty glitter and shimmer polishes. Date Night is a deep plum cream polish that I've seen before from several other brands. That being said, if you don't have one yet, this is a great option! Only one coat for opacity required.

Overall, all three polishes are very fall time appropriate. Metallics are very trendy this season, while black and plum are classic shades for the season. I'm a huge fan of 2 of the three polishes in this set and looking forward to November and December's collections!

THREE THINGS: Breast Cancer Awareness Month with eos, Travalo and Cashmere

1 in 9 Canadian women are expected to develop breast cancer during their lifetimes. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual initiative by major breast cancer charities to raise awareness and raise funds for research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of the disease.

Their are a plethora of ways to show your support for the cause such as volunteering, leaning about breast cancer, direct donations and also donations through the purchase of of products. Today, I've got three different Breast Cancer Awareness items to share with you.

eos Body Lotion ($4.99 to $8.99 CAD) - 100% of the net profits from the sale of the eos Berry Blossom Body Lotions will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society. Internationally, there is a separate donation program supporting breast cancer research centres. This was my first experience with the eos Berry Blossom Body Lotions. They're fairly lightweight and remind me a lot of the eos Hand Creams but in bigger bottles. The formula is whipped and contains shea butter, vitamin E, avocado oil, coconut oil, macadamia seed oil, soy bean oil, flower seed oil. Available at Loblaws, Walmart, London Drugs and FamiliPrix in two sizes, 200mL with a flip top cap and 350 mL with a pump.

Travalo
($19.99 to $49 USD) - For this month, all sales of the Travalo Excel, Classic HD and Milano pink models will be donated to Bright Pink, a not-for-profit organization with a mission to save lives by empowering women to live proactively at a young age. If you're not familiar with Travalo, it's the perfect way to make your heavy glass bottle of perfume travel-friendly. The refillable atomizer allows you to refill it directly from any fragrance bottle with a removable spray head. Travalo is available at http://us.travalo.com/products

Cashmere Ultra 3 Pink Bathroom Tissue - 25 cents from each purchase of the limited edition 3 ply bathroom tissue is contributed to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (up to $35,000 per year). The bathroom tissue is hypoallergenic and dermatologist approved.  3-ply is fancy. I know it seems strange to be talking about toilet paper but I recently attended the Cashmere White Collection 2016 Fashion Show, featuring 16 Canadian designers that made season-inspired designs crafted in Cashmere Bathroom Tissue. My favourite was a floral high-low gown by Narces! You can also vote for your favourite design at http://bit.ly/2cqUpNo and $1 for each vote will be donated to the CBCF.

Will you be picking up any of these pink products?

Caryl Baker Enchanted Colour Collection

Fall collections are in full swing. Caryl Baker has released the Enchanted Colour Collection for Fall 2016 which features warm neutrals and deep, matte lip colours - tis the season!

Caryl Baker Lip Liner ($18.50 CAD) in Inspiration is a deep, warm brown lip liner. It's very, very fall but also quite Kylie. The lip liner smooths on easily, is comfortable, doesn't feather and lasts all day - everything that I could ask for from a lip liner. I actually like this one all over the lips for a not-wearable-at-all vampy matte lip look.

Caryl Baker Matte Liquid Lipstick ($24 CAD) in Ever After is a deep, warm red liquid lipstick. It appears pink-ish in the tube but on the lips it's more red. Indeed it is quite matte and also, as expected, very potent and quite uncomfortable after an hour or so of wear. I didn't find it to be transfer resistant but it also didn't dry out my lips which is a plus.

Caryl Baker Enchanted Colour Lip Liner in Inspiration; Matte Liquid Lipstick in Ever After; Eyeshadows in Dreamy, Mist and Ambrosia; Blush in Wonderland

Caryl Baker Enchanted Colour Eyeshadows ($18 CAD) in Mist, Dreamy and Ambrosia are good quality powder products. They're smooth, pigmented and blendable and quite overpriced at $18. The colours are quite unique given my large collection of shadows that I should really use more often. Mist is a matte purple-grey, Dreamy is a satin peachy pink and Ambrosia is a satin deep purple burgundy.

Caryl Baker Enchanted Colour Blush ($22.50 CAD) in Wonderland is a unique lilac-pink. While it is certainly unique, it's extremely subtle on my light/medium skintone. The blush lasts about 4-5 hours before fading away evenly.

Above, I'm wearing the Matte Liquid Lipstick in Ever After over the Lip Liner in Inspiration, as well as Ambrosia all over the lids with Dreamy blended into the crease and the Blush in Wonderland on the tops of my cheeks.

Overall, the Caryl Baker Enchanted Colour Collection is perfectly suitable for fall. If warm neutrals and vampy lips are your cup of tea definitely check it out!

Minimal packaging. Quality ingredients. These are the cornerstones of the MUJI skincare range. While many brands pour all of their money into marketing, branding and packaging, MUJI says that they choose a more minimalist approach to packaging and branding, preferring to invest in the ingredients to let the product speak for itself.

This month, I visited the MUJI office to explore their skincare range. No, I have not tested everything out in-depth but I received more than enough information (and product) to put together a post about my learnings. First impressions on the skincare range coming up shortly!

MUJI has several skincare lines, each colour coated. Firstly, there's the MUJI Sensitive series (clear packaging) targeted towards those who are hyper-allergenic. The sensitive skincare series features the key ingredient of glacier water sourced from Kamaishi Iwate-ken Mountain in Japan. Each product is available in light, medium and high moisture levels to cater to different skin types (ex: light moisture for me because I'm extra oily).

Products: MUJI Oil Cleansing for Sensitive Skin ($14.50 CAD, 200mL), MUJI Toning Water for Sensitive Skin ($10 CAD, 200mL), MUJI Moisturizing Milk for Sensitive Skin ($10 CAD, 200mL), MUJI Moisturizing Cream for Sensitive Skin ($14.50 CAD, 50g)

Second is the MUJI Anti-Aging series (red packaging) for those that are approaching or past their 30s and have sun damage. The line again, features Kamaishi glacier water, as well as 10 essential oils to protect and rehydrate the skin.

Third is the MUJI Organic series (green packaging). This line includes an all-in-one gel serum meant to replace moisturizer, serum and night cream and promotes brightness and hydration. This particular line also has hand creams and lip balms in rose, grapefruit, neroli and lavender scents.

Products: MUJI Lavender Hand Cream ($9.50 CAD, 50g), MUJI Grapefruit Lip Balm ($5.50 CAD, 5.3g)

Fourth is the MUJI Balancing series. This one's soon to be available in Canada as of October 18th and focuses on combination/unbalanced skin types.

Lastly is the MUJI Cleansing range (frosted white packaging), which includes a mild foaming cleanser (already tried this one - it foams up beautifully!).

Products: MUJI Face Wash Scrub Foam  ($6.50 CAD, 120g), MUJI Mild Face Wash Foam ($6.50 CAD, 120g)

All products are free of fragrance, mineral oil, and artificial colours. Additionally, there's a mini travel size for each full size product. MUJI also sells MUJI Pump and Spray Bottle Heads ($3.50 CAD) that fit perfectly onto all bottled products for extra hygiene and convenient use. Each head includes a ruler, which is for measuring the bottle and cutting the straw of the pump accordingly!

Last few bits. MUJI has lots of tools and knick knacks that don't fit into a skincare series but are necessary and useful in ones skincare routine:

  1. My go-to blotting sheets are Starbucks napkins and public washroom toilet seat covers. They work wonders in a pinch but hopefully I'll never have to resort to them again because MUJI Blotting Sheets ($1.50 CAD) absorb oil without moving my makeup around.
  2. The MUJI Cleansing Sheets x 12 ($1.50 CAD) are incredibly inexpensive and the only product mentioned here that are ethanol/alcohol-based, hence they can't be used on the eyes. Sure, they remove makeup, but I prefer something that removes everything in one go.
  3. DIY mask-ing has never been easier. Just soak the MUJI Compact Facial Mask Part Sheet ($2 CAD) or MUJI Face Lotion Sheet x 5 ($2 CAD) with toner or essence and you've got a homemade, customized face and/or eye mask.
  4. My unruly hair always gets in the way of my skincare routine. With the MUJI Pile Hair Turban ($7.50 CAD), I need not worry about getting my hair stuck in my cleanser.
  5. MUJI Unbleached Cut Cotton - 180 pieces, 60x50mm($3.50 CAD) is probably the product I am most excited to use. Several friends have told me that the MUJI cotton pads are the same as the Shisedo cotton pads but only a fraction of the price. CONFIRMED. They're amazing and soft as a baby's butt.
Want to try MUJI skincare for yourself? All skincare products will be on sale at a discount of 20% from October 21st to 31st!

THREE THINGS: the NYX Maroon Lip

As soon as the temperature drops anywhere below 15C, my lip colour palette goes from very mauve and nude to something much darker. Oftentimes, it's a maroon or burgundy (the difference... I'm not quite sure). Today, I have three picks from NYX to share with you - the NYX Retractable Lip Liner in JewelNYX Butter Gloss in Red Velvet, and NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick in Club Hopper

The NYX Retractable Lip Liner in Jewel ($7 CAD) is a unique metallic burgundy with silver reflects. It's not one of those liners that I can recommend that you wear by itself because its fairly drying. The NYX Retractable Lip Liner applies smoothly over the outer edges of my lips but looks quite patchy anywhere else. Hence, below I've paired it with the Butter Gloss in Red Velvet and the Retractable Lip Liner does a wonderful job of preventing feathering and prolonging the wear of any lip colour on top. Not into Jewel? NYX has 19 shades of the Retractable Lip Liner.

The NYX Butter Gloss in Red Velvet ($8 CAD) is a medium deep pinky red. The Butter Gloss formulation is wonderful. It smells good enough to eat (but please don't, it's makeup not food), applies like butter and feels comfortable and non-sticky on the lips. The gloss has a semi-sheer opacity, however, I find that the darker shades like Red  tend to migrate beyond my lip line after a few hours of wear. As such, pairing the Butter Gloss with a similarly coloured lip liner is ideal.

The NYX Liquid Suede Lipstick in Club Hopper is very different from Jewel and Red Velvet. Club Hopper is a brown with the slightest hint of a warm red tone that makes it surprisingly wearable, cool-girl kind of way. It's a bit finicky to work with and requires a few more than 2 layers to build to non-patchy opacity. Patience is key as with other liquid lipstick formulations; because if you apply the next layer too hastily, the layer underneath will move around in a not-so-flattering manner. It's not transfer-free but it is long wearing (up to 6 hours with careful eating/drinking) and doesn't seem to move outside my lip lines. Like most deep shades of liquid lipstick, Club Hopper isn't particularly comfortable and wears away unevenly, so I'd recommend a brief check in the mirror every 3 hours or so.

Overall, NYX has some stellar selection for fall lippies at very affordable price points. If you're looking for comfort, the NYX Butter Gloss is your go-to. If you're looking for cool, try the NYX Liquid Suedes.

Put fall and holiday launches together in a room and what do you get? Falliday!

Last week, I attended Hard Candy's Falliday 2016 event at Wish Restaurant in downtown Toronto, featuring yummy food, runway-inspired makeup demos, and a whole lot of exciting new makeup. If you missed all my Snaps/Insta-stories (@stephh_lau on both platforms - shameless plug), here's a quick recap:

Hard Candy Fall 2016 Launches

Seeing the Hard Candy Glamoflauge Mix-In Pigment Makeup Drops ($7.98 CAD) made me so happy. I've wanted to try the CoverFX drops but they're not particularly affordable. Hard Candy's are. I swatched a couple shades and they're pretty darn potent. The Makeup Drops are available in 12 shades.

The Hard Candy Metallic Mousse ($7.98 CAD) is an affordable, accessible metallic liquid lipstick alternative for those of us that don't want to splurge $20+ on something we'll wear twice or don't want to pay the hefty ColourPop shipping. Available in 7 shades including a purple and a bronze!

In lip prep, there's the Hard Candy Instant Lip Fix ($7.48 CAD) featuring a scrub and oil, as well as the Hard Candy It Takes Two Lip Primer Duo ($7.48 CAD) which includes a glossy lip primer and a creamy lip primer to prevent your lip products of any finish from fading.

I've been in love with lip oils lately, because they're the perfect way to perk up your lips and add a bit of shine and colour without going all out. Hard Candy puts a twist on the traditional lip oil its new Blooming Lip Oil ($7.48 CAD), which goes on clear and reacts with the pH of your lips to create a unique hue. Available in 2 shades - zen strawberry and calming peach.

Hard Candy is ahead of the curve with its unique lip colours. They've released new shades of existing products like the Hard Candy Fierce Effects Lip Gloss ($5.98 CAD), Hard Candy Plumping Serum ($6.98 CAD), Hard Candy Fierce Effects Lipstick ($5.98 CAD), and Hard Candy All Matte Up Hydrating Lip Stain ($5.68 CAD). Noteworthy mentions include the Fierce Effects Lipsticks in White Out and Twisted Metal (pure white and a glittery chrome) and the All Matte Up Hydrating Lip Stains in Cuckoo for Cocoa and Stix and Stones (a wearable brown and purply nude).

Other Fall launches include the Hard Candy Top Ten Satin Eyeshadow Palettes ($6.58 CAD), the Hard Candy Sheer Envy Instant Eye Fix ($7.48 CAD), and the Hard Candy Sheer Envy Hydrating Primer Lotion ($9.98 CAD).

Hard Candy Holiday 2016 Launches

Halloween and Holiday are my two favourite times of the year for makeup. Halloween hasn't even passed yet but if you're one of those super keen holiday shoppers, you'll probably want to know that Hard Candy has gift sets for as low as $2.97 CAD for lip gloss, nail polish and eyeshadow ornaments up to just $19.97 CAD for the Jingle Nails Set (19 nail polishes), the Glam Kit Supreme which includes 54 eyeshadows, 10 eyeliners, a shadow brush and a sharpener or the Best of Holiday Kit which includes 14 Hard Candy Best Sellers.

Additionally...

For the face - Hard Candy Blush, Contour and Conceal & Correct Kits ($4.97 CAD each)

For the lips - Hard Candy Flavoured Lip Balms ($2.97 CAD), Have a Ball Lip Gloss ($2.97 CAD), Get Your Lip On Set ($4.97 CAD for plumping serum, hydrating stain, shimmering gloss and a cosmetic bag), Lips of Love Set ($4.97 CAD for 3 x shimmer lip gloss, lip stain or daring gloss and a cosmetic bag), Size the Sparkle Set ($4.97 CAD for 3 x nail polishes) and the Glossing All the Way Set ($9.97 CAD for 20 mini lip glosses)

THREE THINGS: Sephora Collection Fall 2016 Bits & Bobs - Foot Masks, Hair Ties and Brushes

By "bits and bobs", I mean all those things that you find in Sephora's AISLE OF DOOM (the infamous shelving near the checkout counter). Some things in the aisle of doom are absolute pieces of poop, while others are total gems. I'm here to help you distinguish which ones are which.

Let's start with the most disappointing thing...the Sephora Collection Tick and Tied Hair ($13 CAD). I can't believe anybody would ever pay $13 for a hair tie. That's just absurd to me. Sure, the leather ribbon looks chic in the hair but I feel like this is the kind of thing you could DIY for less than $5 at home.  Pass.

Sephora does some decent brush sets, which the Sephora Collection Desert Sky Brush Wrap ($49 CAD) is... but not for nearly $50. The textured brush holder is adorable, as are the mini wooden-handled brushes but somewhere along the line it doesn't add up. You're better off buying a couple of the single Sephora Collection brushes, i.e. (any of the hakuhodo brushes or pro airbrush collection brushes (which are of impeccable quality).

I've saved the best for last. The Sephora Collection Almond Foot Mask ($6 CAD) is a spa experience on a budget kind of product. The Foot Mask is basically a pair of lined socks with cold, moisturizing liquid inside. It reminds me a lot of the Skin Republic Foot Peeling Mask or Baby Foot in design but don't worry... the Sephora Collection Almond Foot Mask will NOT make your feet peel. It simply nourishes the skin of the feet and softens up any rough areas.

All in all - skip the brushes and the hair ties but be sure to stock up on those foot masks!

HALLOWEEN: Jack Skellington Nightmare Before Christmas Nail Art

It's been a minute since I've watched the Nightmare Before Christmas but it's my all time favourite Halloween movie because I'm too much of a 'fraidy cat to watch anything else alone. This nail art look is particularly simple, as it's a re-creation of a very old CutePolish tutorial.

For Jack Skellington: I started with two coats of a white base. Then, I used a dotting tool to create oval eyes and a striping brush for the nose and mouth. To finish, I applied Seche Vite, my fave fast drying top coat.

For the pinstripe nails: Again I started off with two coats of a white base. After waiting for everything to dry completely, I applied 3-4 pieces of striping tape vertically along each nail. Then, I painted black over the striping tape and peeled off the tape to reveal clean, straight white lines. Again, I finished off with Seche Vite to smooth everything out.

Products Used: Ceramic Glaze Pure*, Ceramic Glaze Little Black Dress*, the Body Shop Nail Art Dotting Tool*, Born Pretty Store Striping Tape*

Hard Candy Metallic Mousse Liquid Lipsticks in Queen of Hearts, Truffle and Smoke & Mirrors

Metallics are all the rage this season. Particularly metallic lipsticks in liquid form. Want to get on the trend without spending an arm and a leg on shipping (or a lipstick that you'll only wear once)? Try the Hard Candy Metallic Mousse Liquid Lipsticks ($7.98 CAD).

Hard Candy Metallic Mousse in Smoke & Mirrors, Queen of Hearts and Truffle

The Hard Candy Metallic Mousse Liquid Lipsticks are available in 7 shades. The three shown above are 1195 Smoke & Mirrors, 1196 Queen of Hearts and 1194 Truffle. There's also 1193 Sandstorm (bronze), 1197 Gilded Cocoa (brown), 1998 Sweet As Honey (gold brown), 1199 Penny Talk (copper).

The colours are fairly wearable and right on trend. There's nothing crazy but I think that generally a metallic lipstick is for those of us that want to make a statement.

Each lippie comes packaged in its own little mirrored tin. Uber hand when you're on the go!

The Metallic Mousse is described as a "divine velvety texture... full coverage matte liquid lip colour that hydrates lips...and delivers bold long lasting wear". The texture is quite unique. Rather than drying down, it feels airy and whipped on the lips yet it still has full, one-swipe coverage.

"Hydrating" is an overstatement. Find me a hydrating liquid lipstick and I'll give you a large sum of my life savings. Luckily, the Metallic Mousse is neither hydrating nor drying. It will definitely emphasize dry patches if you don't exfoliate first. But put in the work and the Hard Candy Metallic Mousse sits nicely on the lips. It's not entirely transfer resistant after drying down, but it doesn't migrate past my lip lines and stays put for at least 5 hours if I'm not eating anything greasy.

Hard Candy Metallic Mousse in 1195 Smoke & Mirrors // A grey with purple lean. Robot-chic.

Hard Candy Metallic Mousse in 1194 Truffle // A silvery, dusty pink.

Hard Candy Metallic Mousse in 1196 Queen of Hearts // A metallic take on the classic maroon. Hands down the most wearable shade of the three shown here.

Sure, there are lots of other metallic liquid lipsticks out there. But this is one is comfortable, comes in wearable colours and is easily accessible!

Have you tried metallic lips yet?

eos Delicate Petals Hand Lotion

Just launched in late August, the eos Delicate Petals Hand Lotion ($3.99 CAD) is a new product from evolution of smooth. I reviewed the eos Hand Lotion in Berry Blossomyears ago. The Delicate Petals Hand Lotion is really quite similar, just a brand new scent.

The packaging is minimalistic, small, round and travel-friendly. Basically, it's allowed in my purse.

The eos Delicate Petals fragrance is described as an elegant floral aroma with notes of apple blossom, anjou pear, and valencia orange. I prefer this one over the sugary sweet berry blossom, as delicate petals is more delicate and floral than fruity. Just as an FYI, delicate does not equal unscented so the scent might bother you if you prefer unscented products.

Similar to other eos Hand Lotions, the formulation is lightweight and non greasy, enriched with shea butter, aloe, oat extract and Vitamin E and C. The formula is free of petrolatum, parabens and gluten and is 90% natural. I find the product to be fast-absorbing and fairly moisturizing. I find I'm moisturizing 2x a day with it, which leads me to believe that the hydration powers are less than 24 hours as claimed by the brand.

All in all, a good hand cream in a nice scent.

Will you be picking up the eos Delicate Petals Hand Lotion?

HALLOWEEN: Easy Purple Skull Makeup (Chrisspy Inspired)

$

A skull is one of those really easy Halloween makeup looks that doesn't require an entire costume. It also calls for very little skill (just a bit of blending) and 5 or 6 products that you definitely have in your makeup collection - a foundation, an eyeliner, a black shadow, any other colour of shadow, and a bone coloured shadow are all you'll need.

Chrisspy's rendition of this easy skull makeup was done with a warm brown and a black. I chose to do my re-creation in purple, because what's life without a little bit of colour?

I started with a blank canvas, using a foundation slightly too light for my complexion.

Then, I started building a smokey eye with black on the lid and a purple in the crease. I went for a very elongated almond shape. Blending is key here.

Next... the skull nose. I used a black cream eyeshadow. Get your hands on the Make Up For Ever Aqua Black - the stuff is holy grail. I set it with a black powder shadow to diminish any shine.

Somewhere along the way, I skipped a few photos for the steps. I shaded around the top part of my nose up to my brow, around the black of the skull nose, into the cheekbones and around the temples and forehead  It's like contouring with black and purple! In all cases, I started with a black shadow and then blended around it with a purple to create a sunken in look.

The last and final step was the mouth - some lines to extend outwards from the lips and a few short vertical lines across the lip line for teeth.

Products Used:

All in all, this has to be one of the simplest Halloween looks I've done thus far. It's probably what I'll actually be wearing on Halloween.
