Kat Von D just released her latest shade of the cult favourite Everlasting Liquid Lipstick. The Kat Von D Project Chimps Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($24 CAD) is limited edition and vegan, with collectible packaging. For every lipstick sold, 20% of the retail price will be donated to Project Chimps, a not-for-profit organization that works to stop the use of chimps in biomedical research to help them retire to a life of freedom.
The product itself is contained in a unique red box decorated with little chimp silhouettes. Project Chimps is a deep, warm brick red - a perfectly appropriate fall shade that will suit most skin tones. It's not too bright or too vampy, so I was surprised to find the colour relatively wearable. The product requires just one layer for full-on opaque colour.
In terms of comfort and longevity, it's different from the only other shade of the Kat Von D Beauty Everlasting Lipstick that I've tried, which is Mother (a neutral pink). Project Chimps is more comfortable than Mother but also not as long-wearing. I didn't find Project Chimps to dry out my lips but it does cling onto dry patches if you haven't exfoliated beforehand.
Staying power is good, if you're not doing any eating or drinking - 5 hours maybe more. There's a bit of transfer. If you're eating (anything, not just oily food), expect the product to move beyond your lip lines and maybe even on your chin. Reapplication is a necessary evil.
Okay, so the Kat Von D Project Chimps Everlasting Liquid Lipstick is not the perfect liquid lipstick formulation but it's a beautiful colour and raises funds for a great cause. I truly appreciate the fact that Kat Von D is an animal advocate and that she's using her brand to support a cause she feels passionately about and hope to see other brands follow suit!
