X-Rated mascara? The first thing that I wondered when I read that on the tube was if my lashes were going to look scandalous or audacious or racy or sexy. I'm not sure what "scandalous eyelashes" even means, but I received a baby sample of the Smashbox X-Rated Mascara ($25 CAD) at Generation Beauty Toronto and went on a little mission to find out... (and by mission I mean apply the mascara to my eyelashes and wearing it for a day).
The full size tube is a twisted bottle (see here)... more sexy and less cute on the eyes compared to my mini.
So what makes the Smashbox X-Rated Mascara special? The brush. Instead of being full all the way around, the bristles are concentrated in three straight lines along the length of the wand. Looking from a bird's eye view it forms a triangle. This is what Smashbox refers to as the "Triple Threat Brush" and says that the brush separates, coats and magnifies lashes for dramatic, defined, ultra-thick, voluptuous lashes.
I do want my eyelashes to be voluptuous. That's the dream.
So I curled my lashes and slapped the stuff on. And the result - my lashes aren't any more sexy or x-rated per se... but they're thickened and nicely defined with the Smashbox X-Rated Mascara. There's not much going on in the lengthening department but no clumps in sight is a good thing. There are no "waterproof" claims but Smashbox says it's smudgeproof and non-flaking. Indeed, it is... even in 35C weather. I'm a fan.
Does it lengthen? Not really. Does it volumize? Yep. Does it clump? Nope. Does it smudge? Nope. Does it droop? Very slightly. Is it easy to remove? Yes.
Have you tried the Smashbox X-Rated Mascara yet?
