My Dad wears AXE so I thought he would appreciate the upgrade. I received REPLICA At the Barber’s by Maison Martin Margiela last month and decided to give it to my Dad (I don’t count this as a Father’s Day gift because I received it as a press sample…my gift is in daughterly love). Anyways, HUGE upgrade. At the Barber’s is eons better smelling (and better looking) than the other stuff.
The “REPLICA” collection features scents crafted to evoke specific moments, periods, and places in time. There are two men’s fragrances (At the Barber’s and Jazz Club) and 6 women’s fragrances (Beach Walk, Tea Escape, Flower Market,Funfair Evening, Lazy Sunday Morning and Promenade at the Gardens). Last month, I had the unique pleasure of testing them all, along with numerous L’Oreal Luxe fragrances, at an Olfactory Workshop lead by Marie Duron, L’Oreal’s Director of Perfume Development. My personal favourites in the “REPLICA” line are Funfair Evening and Jazz Club, as I prefer warm, spicy, enveloping caramel scents to the brighter, cleaner notes of At the Barber’s.
Packaging: “REPLICA” perfume bottles and rope wrapped spray pumps are androgynously chic. The silhouette is inspired by classic apothecary jar and the 100% cotton label reminiscent of the tag used for the Masion Martin Margiela’s “REPLICA”couture collection. I wouldn’t mind having a few ‘REPLICA’ bottles lying around to spruce up my vanity.
Notes: Basil, Lavender, Tonka Bean, White Musk
Scent: At the Barber’s is meant to transport you to a moment where classic barbershops existed. The scent does, in fact, smell fresh and clean – combination of soap and leather. It’s more of an awakening scent than a relaxing one. In terms of longevity, it’s pretty decent on my skin (yes, I wore this men’s fragrance and enjoyed it), about 8 hours. On the other hand, AXE transports me to a high school gym class with smelly boys trying to hide their BO….
Price: $115 - quite pricey but on par with the price of other luxury perfumes. The large bottle could potentially last you forever and a day.
Availability: Sephora and Sephora online
What My Dad Says About “At the Barber’s”: “It’s fresh and sharp smelling. NOW I AM THE ENVY OF ALL FATHERS.” (Translation: he likes it).
I’m hoping my Dad will never purchase a bottle of AXE Spray ever again (and if he does, I’ll have to secretly dispose of it and replace it with At the Barber’s).
What are you gifting your dad for Father's Day?
