Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara in Blackest Black

In all honesty, none of the Maybelline mascaras that I've tried in the past worked for me. Maybe I haven't been trying the right ones. Many, many bloggers (like Julie of Swatch and Review and Courtney of La Belle Sirene) have raved about the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara ($10.99), saying that it's a must-have from the drugstore. I thought I should give it a shot, so I picked up a tube at a #bbloggersCA swap.

The Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara has a curved, plastic bristled wand (similar to the Rimmel XX-treme Scandal Eyes Mascara). The curved shape is meant to coat each lash with product and fan them out with ease for a wide-eyed look.

Curved wands are one of my favourite shapes for mascara wands and the Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara is, in fact, quite successful in fanning out the lashes. It provides volume but not to the point of being bold or clumpy and I found the mascara do very little lengthening. The mascara doesn't flake or smudge and even lasts through long naps but it's quite difficult to remove and I find myself needing to put a fair amount of effort into removal in order to avoid accidentally pulling out my already sparse eyelashes.

Does it lengthen?
Slightly. Does it volumize? Yes. Does it clump? Not really. Does it smudge? Not at all. Does it droop? Slightly. Is it easy to remove? No. It's a b*tch to remove but sometimes that's a good thing.

Overall, it's a decent mascara but definitely not my favourite. It needs more of something. More length or more volume to make the fanning effect of the mascara more prominent on my short lashes.
