Since my high school days, oiliness has been one of my biggest physical insecurities. Imagine agony of waking up in the morning and spending an hour putting on perfect, full face of makeup only to watch it eat up your makeup within a few hours, leaving nothing but a slick of oil. All that hard work gone to waste. That would be my life without oil-controlling skincare, which makes me feel comfortable in my own skin by regulating the oils and letting me go about my day without worrying about how I look. Thank goodness for skincare.
For the past couple weeks, I've been testing out a four-step morning routine from Clean & Clear aimed at tackling oftentimes troublesome oily skin. Here's how it went...
STEP 1: Cleanse // Clean & Clear Morning Morning Burst Shine Control Facial Cleanser
STEP 3: Moisturize // Clean & Clear Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturizer
STEP 4: Maintain // Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets
STEP 1: Cleanse // Clean & Clear Morning Burst Shine Control Facial Cleanser
I find that there's nothing quite as refreshing and revitalizing as washing my face in the morning with a facial cleanser. The gel formula has a light citrus scent that get my senses tingling, which makes this shine control cleanser a great wake-me up on mornings after long nights of studying (or Netflix). I don't find it to be particularly shine-controlling but does do a good job at shine-removing any oils that I have on my face when I wake up in the morning without drying out my skin.
While some toners make my skin feel stung and stripped, the Clean & Clear facial toner is indeed appropriate for my sometimes sensitive skin. The astringent contains a small concentration of salicylic acid (0.5%), which helps to treat and prevent pimples, blackheads and breakouts. Before starting the Oil-Free Clean & Clear Morning Routine, I had a few spots from eating too much pizza during exam week. A couple days after incorporating the Clean & Clear Deep Cleaning Astringent into my morning skincare rotation, the breakouts had dissipated. Further, over the past couple weeks, I haven't seen any major breakouts, pimples or blackheads.
STEP 3: Moisturize // Clean & Clear Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturizer
I'm not quite as much of a fan of the scent of the Clean & Clear Morning Burst Hydrating Gel Moisturizer compared to the Clean & Clear Morning Burst Shine Control Facial Cleanser, as it smells slightly more artificial. Similar to the Morning Burst Facial Cleanser, the face moisturizer is one of those early morning pick-me-ups that makes my skin feel awake. The products itself is a gel formula with water, which lends well to the lightweight, non-greasy texture that sinks in immediately and feels almost cooling on the skin.
STEP 4: Maintain // Clean & Clear Oil-Absorbing Sheets
Last but not least is the Clean & Clear Oil-Absorbing Sheets. Unlike the others, this is not a new-to-me product. I've gone through many a pack of Clean & Clear Oil-Absorbing Sheets. With a few light dabs of the thin, soft, blue rubbery-textured papers, excess oil disappears without smudging makeup. Oh and it's strangely satisfying to see the sheet go from being opaque to transparent.
Overall, I'm impressed by how well a Clean & Clear skincare regimen worked with my skin. While I'm always glad to have another pack of Clean & Clear Oil-Absorbing Sheets on-hand, my two weeks of testing out this four-step Clean & Clear morning skincare routine has left my skin with some new product options for feeling less oily and more comfortable in my own skin.
